Mrs. Pawlusiak's 1st Grade
Welcome to first grade!
In first grade we spend our days thinking, exploring our world, following our curiosities, and learning to work together. Through our year we will work on a variety of reading, writing, & math skills and become a community of problem solvers.
The students are turning everyday objects into graphs as we dive into a chapter all about using graphs to organize data. Each morning we will look at a graph in our message as well. We talk about the data shown using words like most, more than, less than, and least.
First grade writers have been hard at work planning, writing, sharing and rewriting narrative stories. Some will be coming home, some will go into portfolios and some may appear as part of a project later in the year. The writers have the final decision!
Wrapping up 2017, time will be spent reviewing a few key sounds and spellings, and applying them in reading and writing. We spent the last week learning about many holidays, and the students look forward to sharing their own holiday traditions with each other.
In Math we will be continuing to work with numbers to 20. We are comparing numbers and making number patterns, which you can do during the holiday vacation at home. We will also be reviewing the concepts of addition and subtraction in a few fun ways during this time. Take time to play some math games during the break. Click on Math Games to see how you can play at home with a deck of cards!
Fall Festival Fun:
Fire Safety with the Hooksett FIre Department:
This week we went to ALPS and heard the story This is Not a Box. Students were challenged to use limited supplies in order to plan and create a game that could be used by children. There were many creative ideas developed and shared out!
Meet Mrs. Pawlusiak
I have been lucky enough to have taught 1st grade for the past 13 years, spending the last 9 of those years at Fred C. Underhill School! Hooksett holds a special place in my heart as it is the town where I grew up, and where I discovered what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! I live in Manchester with my husband and our cat. In my free time I like to run, read, learn, create, and spend time playing with family---especially my nephews and niece.
