Welcome to Mathematics and Science with Mrs. Murphy! Here is a little bit about me. This is my fifth year teaching in Candia, and fourth year teaching 6th Grade. I love 6th Grade Math because it has so many real-world connections. We get to study things like percents, ratios, area and volume of shapes. There are so many engaging and interesting ways to learn about these topics. This year in Science we will be studying Earth and Space Science, and creating our own models, working through important experiments, and making lots of real-world connections. Learning about our Universe and what makes it up is going to be great!
My husband, Sean, is studying to be an engineer. We love going to the lake, hanging out with our dog, Biggie, and spending time with family and friends. During the school year I coach Track and Field and love being a Student Council Advisor!
My Educational Philosophy:
As an educator, my philosophy revolves around believing in my students. Believing they can achieve anything. Knowing that every day, (sometimes every few minutes!) can be a clean slate, and a chance to try again. I am a growth mindset proponent, and I firmly believe that if you put your mind to something, and work hard, you can learn anything. Reading Carol Dweck's book, Mindset, changed my life both in and out of the classroom. I believe that a person's potential is limitless, and that I, and my students, can learn ANYTHING. I also believe that students need to be engaged in their learning, feel safe taking risks in the classroom, and be comfortable asking for help when needed. I view myself as a facilitator, and enjoy being part of a student-driven environment with clear expectations, goals, and measurable objectives.
Please feel free to contact me at any point with any questions, comments or concerns.
