Students in 3rd grade who have been showing they can be "caring" are invited to play board games from 12:45 to 1:15pm in the classroom. We discussed today that students are not to bring in any electronics. However, they can bring in Battleship and Uno cards if they want to. If you have any questions, please email me. I can't wait to see what games students bring in!

* Book Exchange - Students will be exchanging their book on Monday.

* Math - We are starting ing Chapter 6 - Multiplication. Students will be getting a deeper understanding of the meaning of multiplication. However, it would be VERY helpful for your child to start practicing their multiplication facts at home. Begin with x0, x1, x2, x5, x10 facts. Once students have a good recall of the products, work on x3 and x4 facts.

Reading - In class, we will be working with the story, "The Disappearing Island" this week. The skill students will focus on is Cause & Effect and Summarizing.

Math - We will continue working on Bar Modeling, chapter 5. Students are working on determining if a one step word problem requires them to add or subtract. The challenge this week will come when students are asked to solve two step word problems using bar models. The test for this chapter will be next week.

Writing - We have moved on to opinion writing. Students will be asked to form an opinion and support that opinion. This weeks topic is "The Best Season". It will be important that students be able to give good reasons that support their opinion and try to get other students to agree with them.

Parent Teacher Conferences - Tuesday is Parent Teacher Conferences. I look forward to meet with each of you to discuss the great progress your child has made. Veteran's Day Assembly - Thank you to Joseph & Ella for their extra work this week to practice their parts and participate in the Veteran's Day play. They did a great job! A big thank you to the Boy Scouts, CJ and Michael from our class, for leading us in the pledge as well. The slideshow of all the veterans was great to see. Thank you to all the Veterans who have served our country.

The top donors were able to dye Mr. Rivet's and Mr. Harrises's beards purple! Hooksett McDonald's also donated a free ice cream to each HMS student as a way to thank the students for their fundraising efforts. It was a great time had by all!

Reading - This week we will finish the story, "Earthquakes! The 1906 San Francisco Disaster". Then we will start "The Disappearing Island". Due to the shortened weeks, we will be working with this story for the next 2 weeks.

Veteran's Day - HMS will be honoring our Veteran's on Thursday, November 9th at 2:30, with an assembly. All the pictures that were sent in will be presented in a slideshow. Also, our students will be singing a patriotic songs. In our class, we have 2 students (Ella & Joseph) who will be performing a play with 2 fifth grade students. There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, November 10th, to honor Veteran's Day.

Glogster - Last week, students were introduced to a new program called Glogster. They are working on creating an "All About Me" poster. Students have their username and passwords in the front of their agenda books if they want to go on at home. We will be finishing our posters this week.
