ADD-ON COURSE

FILM & PHILOSOPHY

This course is designed to introduce students to a new field of study in Philosophy which is Philosophy of films and encourage philosophical enquiry of films. Film is seen as an independent art form like music, painting, architecture etc. This course will develop an approach of seeing films as a discipline worthy of academic engagements with theories and ideologies. The course will help learners to engage philosophical discussion on the impact of films on society and understand its relationship with human psychology and also to understand philosophy through films.


COURSE OUTCOMES

On completion of the course the learner shall:

  • Develop skills to understand various philosophical dimensions of films.


  • Be able to apply philosophical approaches and frameworks to critically evaluate and analyze films


  • Appreciate the reciprocal relationship of understanding film philosophically and exploring philosophy as a subject through films

  • Introduction to History of cinema and film studies

  • Components of Film Creation: Foundation

  • Genres, themes and styles

  • Film directors and their styles

  • Film reception and censorship

  • Upcoming trends in Film

Note: The course shall include screening of selected movies for review, appreciation and criticism.
