Welcome to Eyes on Education, a SASD school nurse nonprofit campaign, dedicated to ensuring that all SASD students have access to the vision care they need to succeed.
Through our program, we aim to raise funds to provide free eye exams and eyeglasses to our students who otherwise wouldn’t have access to these essential resources.
The Sheboygan Area School District nursing staff screened a total of 2059 students last school year, and of those students, 15.8% were referred for a professional eye exam. Unfortunately, 56.1% of those referred still need eye exams/glasses.
What can we do to help our students get the vision care they need to succeed?
For years, the school nurses had access to a voucher program to assist families with obtaining glasses. That program no longer exists. The Lions Club is the only local option to the community. Their generosity makes a huge impact; however, we cannot assist every child with their resources.
The school nurses decided to create our own voucher system. We reached out to Dr. Nichole Cruz, a strong advocate for providing vision care in our community, and Eyes on Education was born!
Eyes on Education services will be provided through a voucher from the school nurse.
Those without insurance or ability to pay for an appointment/glasses will be considered for a voucher.
Staff can contact their school nurse if they know of a family who would benefit from this service.
The school nurses will work with the family and Cruz Family EyeCare to set up an appointment.
Families shouldn't call Cruz Family Eyecare. The school nurse needs to provide the voucher before the appointment is made.

How to donate:
Funds for SASD's Eyes on Education will be collected through the Early Learning Center.
Cash or Check can be made out to “The Early Learning Center” and mailed or dropped off at the ELC front office, Attn: Lori Hamilton, 1227 Wilson Ave, Sheboygan, WI 53081.
Cash or check can be given to any of the SASD school nursing staff or you can Venmo the Lead District School Nurse directly.
