What Is TRi Time?
What Is TRi Time?
TRi Time is dedicated time for middle school students to personalize their learning and develop lifelong habits of inquiry by awakening and exploring their own curiosities -- and nurturing their own joy of learning. Similar to Google 20% Time or Genius Hour, TRi Time gives students time in their busy schedules to question, investigate, create, and reflect as they pursue topics of their own interest. Through this independent work, students hone their skills at creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication while simultaneously developing a growth mindset. They then share their final reflections -- including both successes and setbacks -- with an authentic audience. Throughout this work, advisors serve as guides, leading students through the learning process.

When students travel from their Homebase to another supervised space in the middle school during TRi Time, they are expected to take a completed TRi Time Travel Ticket (TTTT) with them. The TTTT asks students to share their driving question, goals, and needs. It also includes space on the back for Homebase teacher and space supervisor initials, along with space for students to jot down something they learn each day and one next step.
