SAS Strength & Conditioning
The Strength and Conditioning Team has written several workout programs for SAS athletes. Currently, we offer a guided and coached after school conditioning program for in-season and preseason athletes. These sessions are offered Monday through Friday from 3:15 to 5pm in the APEx Center. In addition to these sessions, we also offer self guided 3-month preseason Strength and Conditioning cycle, and an in-season program 9 week cycle.
This strength and conditioning program has been written for the high school aged athlete with a desire to become stronger. The warm-up activities, exercises, and mobility work is designed to functionally strengthen the body overall, with emphasis on core-to-extremity movement. An emphasis on squatting, deadlifting and pressing overhead with added accessory exercises is based on the idea that the SAS student athlete needs the ability to express their hips and shoulders to generate power for improved performance in all sport and athletic endeavors.
This particular program is designed to be a stand-alone program, followed by the Power Cycle and Conditioning Cycle, as a means to prepare a student athlete for the upcoming sport season. It can be utilized in almost any pattern of work/rest days, but is designed with a minimum of two days of rest per week, and at least one day of rest between the fifth day of one week and the following first day of the following week’s workouts. For example, you SHOULD take a day of rest between workout S1-5 and workout S2-1.
This strength and conditioning program is written for the athlete currently in season and is meant to compliment the training provided by coaches and the S&C staff. This program should only be used with the permission of your coach so as to not affect your performance or you coach's practice and game programming.
