Entry Criteria: Four subjects at Grade 4 or above, including Grade 4 Maths and Science
Students will need to pay for a scientific calculator and safety goggles, the value of which can be up to £30. Our means-tested bursary can help pay for this.
Our Science course allows you to experience the practical aspect of the science industry as well as the research needed to be successful in science. It provides a good mix of the theory and practical sides of science that can fuel your passion for the subject even further.
The course contains experience in the industry; working in agencies such as Salisbury NHS and chemical research labs. This allows you to create a university style dissertation project whilst on placement in the scientific industry, as well as learning from experienced professionals in your field of study.
Applied Science will give you many transferrable skills in life to utilise within any career path you venture upon.
Students need to complete followig three madatory units:
Unit 1: Principles and Applications of Science (Exam)
Unit 2: Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques (Coursework)
Unit 3: Science Investigation Skills (Exam)
Plus one elective unit, chosen by the class in Year 13 (all are coursework):
Physiology of Human Body Systems
Human Regulation and Reproduction
Biological Molecules and Metabolic Pathways
Genetics and Genetic Engineering
Diseases and Infections
Applications of Inorganic Chemistry
Applications of Organic Chemistry
Electrical Circuits and their Application
Astronomy and Space Science
Higher Education
A degree in science such as; Forensic science, Applied science, Biochemistry, Biomedical science, Physiology, Zoology and many more.
