Sarratt School Newsletter
A Message from Mrs O'Hare
Dear Parents and Carers,
We made it to a very wet and windy Friday! September has absolutely flown by in school and the children have settled in incredibly well. They should be very proud of how they have adapted to new routines and ways of working.
At this time of year, we start making preparations for parent consultations in school. Having time to discuss your child's well being and learning early in the academic year is essential in ensuring they thrive at school. With safety restrictions in place, this year's meetings will be held remotely. Look out next week for further details.
In the meantime, let's see who has made it into Gold Book this week...
Warmest regards,
Mrs O’Hare
Head of School
Gold Book
Reception
Reception have been impressing us with their fabulous behavior in the lunch hall. They are using their table manners and we always hear lots of thank yous. This week, Charlie really shone out for his kindness and patience - he made sure everyone at his table had their meals before eating his. Well done Charlie!
Year 1
The Year One gold book entry for this week goes to Xara. In just a few weeks she has made particularly rapid progress especially with reading. She is using her newly acquired phonic skills to sound out and blend unfamilar words and is also using picture clues to help if she is not sure she has blended the right word in context. Very well done Xara - you should be proud of this achievement.
Year 2
I would like to enter Maggie and Marah. They have settled into Sarratt so well and are an important part of our class.
Jude has worked so hard this week. He wrote a fantastic continuation of a story full of drama, speech and superb expanded noun phrases.
Well done, Mrs Bailey and I are very proud of you.
Year 3
Year 3's gold book entry this week is Sam. Sam is confident to share his ideas with the class, regardless of the subject matter. During guided reading we have been examining 'The Lion and the Unicorn' by Shirley Hughes. Each lesson we predict what will happen next as we attempt to use our understanding of the context of the story to conjecture reasonably. Sam was able to give an extremely reasoned prediction, presenting his understanding of World War Two, the characters in the story and the way they acted previously. His prediction may not actually be fulfilled, but it would have made for a splendid tale.
Year 4
Year 4 have been showing everyone just how fantastic they all are at writing. In particular, we have selected Eve and Harry for their excellent writing. We were describing the birth of the goddess Venus and had to use figurative language to impress on the reader just how beautiful she was. Both Eve and Harry were able to put together excellent descriptions.
Also in the Goldbook this week is Jack. This week he impressed Mrs Fowler, one of our MSAs, with his mature attitude to problem solving. Whilst at lunch play, Jack was able to sort out a disagreement between some of the children. Well done, Jack. You are definitely a role model for us all.
Year 5
Dexter definitely reached for the stars this week when he was told to move his name up but had already reached the top of our chart. He had his hand up throughout our lessons, was very helpful outside during his break time and had been doing excellent reading at home. As a result, he won a reward for his whole class. Well done Dexter!
Year 6
Nya has been trying extremely hard with her home learning. She has reinforced her learning from school and used colours to show different concepts. Excellent effort Nya!
Jude is also in our gold book this week for determination, positive attitude and growth mindset. He's had so many "lightbulb moments" where he's suddenly gaining confidence and it's been so lovely to see. Well done Jude!
Important Information
Flu Vaccines will be taking place in school on 16th October. We understand that it is common for some children to develop a slight temperature following the vaccine. We have therefore received the following guidance from the local authority who have consulted with Vaccination UK on this matter:
If a child develops a temperature after the nasal spray, they should be given Calpol at home. If the Calpol brings the temp down then it is just a reaction to the vaccine and not Covid.
However, if the temperature persists for 24-48 hours then the child would need a Covid test. They should stay off school.
The local authority is also pursuing this with Public Health England as it is likely to affect a large number of children across the UK. Until they have a response, the advice above stands. We will update you as we know more.
At any time, if your child is showing any of the three symptoms below, you must follow the official government guidance.

The Great Sarratt (Virtual) Bake Off
Last week we received our annual McMillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning Pack. Whilst we will be unable to repeat last year's bake sale, we would still like to show our support and get baking (and eating!).
Next week we will be launching The Great Sarratt Bake Off, in which we will encourage children, families and staff to get creative in the kitchen making cakes and biscuits. We will then be asking everyone taking place to show us their bakes by emailing pictures of their creations with a short description.
We have stickers for every child taking part and we will be announcing 3 Star Bakers (1 for lower school, 1 for upper school and 1 member of the Sarratt team) in next week's Newsletter.
If you are taking part or would like to show your support, please make donations directly by visiting https://coffee.macmillan.org.uk/
