Sarratt School Newsletter

A Message from Mrs O'Hare

Dear Parents and Carers,

Next week is our last week in school before the Summer Break. We have all really enjoyed welcoming every year group back over these last weeks. It has provided the children with an opportunity to get back into classroom routines, spend time with their teachers and friends and resume learning in key areas.

As you will now be aware, we will be opening full time to all of our children in September should the official guidance remain in place. Many of the current procedures will still remain in place for our school to ensure we are providing a safe environment for our whole Sarratt community. Next week, I will be sending out a letter with further details so you are fully informed about what to expect.

In the meantime, here is a look at what has been happening this week.

Warmest regards,

Mrs O’Hare

Head of School

A New Member to our Team

On Wednesday, Mr Williams popped in to say hello to the Year 2 class. In September, he will be joining our Sarratt staff team as Year 3 teacher. Here is a little more about him...

Hello, my name is Mr Williams and I have the pleasure of being your Year 3 class teacher from September.

It was lovely to meet some of you this week and I look forward to sharing many exciting learning opportunities in the coming year.

So, here is a little bit about myself.

After a few years out of education, I returned and this summer have graduated from the University of Hertfordshire. Along the way I was nominated for the university wide; 'student of the year', Vice-Chancellor's award.

Whilst studying I have been able to maintain my voluntary work, in an all-inclusive drama group, based in Chesham.

I play the guitar, at the level I call “bedroom guitar", good enough for me and my four walls. However, when I am not playing, I am listening to music on vinyl or at concerts.

As a lifelong scout, I have learnt and taught the skills of map reading, kayaking and let us not forget building roaring fires and cooking baked potatoes in tin foil. I have a true passion for everything outdoors; including hiking, cycling and gardening but I also believe that so many of these elements can be brought into (or out of) the classroom for memorable learning experiences.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming year.

I wish you well, stay safe and I'll see you in September.

Gold Book

Reception

Here is the entry for Reception class...

This week, we would all like to say a huge well done to Reception Class. Our youngest children have settled back into school so well over the past 5 weeks and each day we are seeing progress. It's lovely to see them all coming into school with big smiles, ready to learn and full of enthusiasm.

Year 1

Well - Mrs Tarak and Mrs Van Hooke have decided that the entire Year One class should go into the gold book this week.

We are so proud of how well they have settled into their bubbles and just carried on working hard and making fabulous progress.

Well done Year One!

Year 2

This week's entry is Jemma for her 'marvellous maths' in school this week. She has challenged herself and worked diligently through a variety of increasingly complex problems. Jemma has continued her creative learning at home, producing a superb beach hut scene, which looks very tempting!

Mrs Bailey and I would also like to say well done and thank you to all of year 2 for their continued effort throughout the lockdown period and their positive attitude upon returning. This applies to those at school and our home learners. You have been fantastic and have made us very proud of you.

Year 3

Jasper has been a delight to have in the classroom since returning to school. He has enjoyed cheerfully chatting away to his classmates, playing outside in his break times and has thrown himself into our journey around the world in our English lessons. He enjoys sharing his own experiences and listens thoughtfully to others. Well done Jasper!

Year 4

Here is Mrs Serby's entry...

This week I will be entering... The whole of Year 4! They have astounded me with their hard work, enthusiasm and energy. From long multiplication and division to imaginative writing, they have blown me away this week. Well done Year 4!

Year 5

This week's Y5 entry goes to...

Henry is my gold book entry for this week. Not only have I heard incredibly positive reports of friendly and supportive behaviour towards all pupils from Mrs MacMahon-Mills, Henry has also tried incredibly hard in his English this week. He wrote a fantastic piece in character as Macbeth, reflecting on his heinous crimes.

Year 6

I’d like to put Ferris in the Gold Book for his outstanding writing. I was so impressed with the maturity and quality of his work. He is a very talented writer.

I’d also like to mention Izzy, who has not only completed any task given to her to a very high standard, but she has done so with a big smile on her face! It’s been lovely to see how much she is enjoying her time at school.

Harvey's last piece of writing in Year 6 was amazing! He certainly saved the best for last. Everything was punctuated correctly, spelling was perfect and the content was thoughtful and mature. Well done Harvey!

Music Star

This week we have Rory playing 'The Skaters' on the piano. Fabulous work Rory - well done!

Rory has also really impressed us here in school. He has been working on his own writing at home. Rory wrote a story for a 500 words competition on the radio on the subject of Black Lives Matter. He researched material for his piece and planned it using techniques learned in school. Well done Rory - your writing was inspirational.
