The recycling bin takes all recyclables except glass. Glass can go in the green trash bin.

Trash and recycling are picked up at the end of the driveway on Tuesdays.

Fire Safety

There are smoke/CO detectors in all bedrooms and common areas. A fire extinguisher can be found on the wall near the laundry room and on the back deck.

Other Safety Items

Breaker/ Fuse Box

The fuse box is located outside the back of the house, next to the master bedroom window.

Climate Control- Heat and A/C

The house is equipped with central heating and radiant baseboards. The thermostat in the hallway controls the central heat, and the thermostat in the Master Bedroom controls the baseboard heat in both the Master and Bedroom #2.

In the summer months, we will install portable A/C units and window units in the bedrooms.

Since Santa Fe is a high desert climate, many of our guests (along with us!) opt to leave the windows open—especially at night when the temperature drops deliciously. Whichever option you choose: please do not run the A.C./Heat with the windows open.

Fireplace

The indoor fireplace will be turned off from May15-Oct 15. If you decide to build a fire outside of that time, please use the metal bucket outside of the house for the ash when you are done. Don’t forget to open the flue! (Reach in and up into the fireplace, grab the metal lever, pull towards you for open, push back for closed)

To build a fire in the fireplace please follow these steps:

Step 1: Make sure the chimney flue draft is opened, so you can get some airflow up the chimney (and not out into the room).

Step 2: Gather your tinder/kindling materials and make a loose pile in the very back of the fireplace.

Step 3: Stack your wood around the kindling in a teepee shape. Don’t put too much in because you want air flowing under and around the sticks, so they’ll ignite and stay lit.

Step 4: Light the kindling, and (if needed) blow on the fire gently. Then slightly open a window, or otherwise to ensure you have fresh air coming into the room to replace what the fire is using up.

Step 5: Tend it by adding more wood as the existing sticks collapse.

Step 6: Never leave an open fire unattended

Ceiling Fans

The ceiling fan/s and light are controlled with a remote. Simply press the light button on the remote. You can adjust the brightness of the light by holding down the 'light' button.

The fan can be turned on and off, as well as adjusting the speed, with the remote. If the fan is not turning on, try flipping the light switch the other direction.

BBQ Grill

The outdoor charcoal grill can be used all year. Please do not burn wood or other foreign materials, and never leave it unattended.

Outdoor Firepit

The outdoor fire pit can be used all year. Please be sure to turn the gas tank off after you are done for the evening, do not burn wood or other foreign materials, and never leave it unattended.

Landscaping

The landscaper comes every other Monday to clean up around the patios, driveway, and yard areas.

The Santa Fe Ski Basin is about thirty minutes away. You can rent equipment at Alpine Sports in town or wait until you get to the mountain.

For some out of town fun, Taos is a beautiful hour and a half drive North West, and Albuquerque is about 45 minutes South. Both offer tastes of New Mexico not found anywhere else!
