The CHS English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a group of students, parents, and staff members that meet on a monthly basis to provide advice to the CHS Admin Team on issues concerning our English Learner population. The ELAC is responsible for helping guide decision making about policies and procedures related to assisting English Learners in making progress toward proficiency with the English Language. CHS will be holding an informational meeting to share the specific legal tasks that the ELAC is responsible for completing and also providing parents and opportunity to indicate their interest in serving on the ELAC. Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. As Clairemont High School qualifies for Title I funding, we will be convening our annual meeting to explain the Title I requirements and the right of parents to be involved in those programs. In order to keep parents informed, we are inviting the parents of children participating in Title I programs to attend a brief informational session on Thursday, September 9 at 4:15 pm (just before our virtual Back to School Night) via Zoom (no longer in Room 114). Please let us know if you plan to attend this event by using the Google Form below:

Hello Clairemont High School parents. Would you be interested in serving on the Clairemont High School Site Council (SSC) this school year as a parent/community representative? For the coming school year, we have TWO parent/community member openings and THREE student openings.
The SSC is a governing body that is responsible for deciding how to spend categorical money to improve the instructional program at Clairemont High School. Each school in the district receives a different amount of money, based on enrollment. SSC members work together to set goals for improving student achievement at Clairemont High School and allocating the funds to accomplish those goals. SSC members meet eight times a year to oversee the implementation of various programs in the school, including state and federally-funded programs.
Parents will have an opportunity to vote for their parent/community representatives as soon as the ballot has been finalized. If you would like to nominate either yourself or another parent/student to serve on the SSC, please use the link below to do so.
If you have any additional questions about the CHS SSC, please feel free to email Principal Williams at your convenience. (ewilliams4@sandi.net).

You are the expert on your child. Over the course of a school year, you receive a lot of information about how your child is performing that can be combined to give you a more complete picture of your child’s progress. In addition to report card grades and class tests, you can use the ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California) score reports to better understand your child’s progress in learning English to start a conversation with your child’s teacher about how to even better support learning at home.
CHS encourages all English Learners and their parents to take advantage of the free Starting Smarter resources to help families understand ELPAC testing, results, and next steps. The page is available in both English and Spanish.

Last week, SDUSD provided parents with a School COVID-19 Testing Option Form. This form will allow parents the option to opt in to weekly COVID-19 testing for their child. In order to provide parents with more information about this process, SDUSD and the Family Engagement Department will be hosting an informational Zoom session on Wednesday, September 8 at 5:30 pm. More information about the event, including the Zoom link can be found on the fliers linked below.
A job aid is available with instructions to assist parents/guardians with submitting the form. Those who would like to opt in to the weekly testing should login to the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://powerschool.sandi.net and select Forms from the left-hand navigation, then select the form named School COVID-19 Testing Option. If parents/guardians do not have a Parent Portal account, they may also login using their student’s ID and password. However, we encourage parents/guardians to create their own Parent Portal account in the future.
Any parents/guardians who indicate that they would like to enroll in the District’s COVID-19 testing program will be directed to one or two additional forms based on school of enrollment. These forms will also show in the PowerSchool Parent/Student Portal Forms area if a parent needs to return to them later.
Clairemont Community of Schools are meetings in which parents and staff from all 5 feeder elementary schools, Marston and Clairemont High School discuss topics like K-12 alignment, district updates, enrollment, marketing and other items brought forth to the committee. The purpose of the Clairemont Community of Schools Committee is to assemble Clairemont Cluster staff, parents and community members to discuss information that will ultimately improve the Cluster’s programs and presence in the Community. Area Superintendents, principals and a SDUSD Board Trustee often attend these meetings.
Each school also identifies a Parent Liaison responsible for attending cluster school PTA meetings and disseminating cluster information to the respective PTA Board (or similar parent group determined by each site). Cluster Parent Liaisons use outreach systems at their respective schools to share news about CCoS work. Parent’s may nominate either themselves or another parent to be added to the ballot and then the parent liaison will be voted on by the Clairemont parent community.
To nominate either yourself or another parent, please use THIS GOOGLE FORM. Once a ballot has been created, parents will have the opportunity to vote on their Parent Liaison.

It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:
As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.

What is PowerSchool?
PowerSchool is a web-based tool that enhances communication between parents, teachers and students by providing access to student information from home, work, or from any remote location with Internet access. PowerSchool allows students and parents to easily access their grades, report cards, progress reports, schedules, attendance, and allows parents to update their contact information as well as emergency contacts, and more.
What do I need to login?
STUDENTS:
Students can log in using their Student ID# and password.
PARENTS:
It is imperative that you stay on track with your child's grades, and Powerschool is the easiest and best way to do so. Before trying to create an account, please request a Parent Portal letter from Clairemont High School Site Technician, Mr. Steve Durham (sdurham@sandi.net) via email; include your student's full name and Student ID# in the request. Once you receive the letter from Mr. Durham,:
Click on the button labeled "Create Account."
Enter the parent/guardian account information. Each account must have a unique email address and username.
Create a password.
Enter the Access ID and Access Password for each student you'd like to add to your account from the letter(s).If you have students at other District schools, that school can provide you the Access ID and Password as well.
Take note of your username and password that you have created, because you will need them to log in to the Powerschool portal once you click on "Enter."
**Please note** The Access ID is not the same as your child's student ID**
Help yourself to instructions to update your email and contact information in Parent Portal. (This information can also be found on our school website under the “Parent” tab by clicking on “PowerSchool"
I forgot my password. What should I do?
Powerschool has a "having trouble signing in" link directly on the PowerParent portal. You are encouraged to follow these steps first to reset your password. If you are still having trouble, you may come into the front office or contact our Site Technician, Mr. Steve Durham at sdurham@sandi.net.
