Dear CHS students and families,
CHS will be opening it's doors to students and staff on Monday, April 12 to start the fourth quarter of the school year. As you can imagine, there is much to be worked out as we shift our program to offer both online and in-person options based on the requests of our students and families. After reviewing the results of our Phase 2 School Reopening Survey, we have determined that the number of students who wish to return will allow us to safely bring those students back for four days a week. This means that starting April 12, families who indicated a desire to have their child return to campus on our Phase 2 Reopening Survey and have submitted their In-Person Opt In Form (more info on how to do so below) will return to in-person learning Monday through Thursday. All students will learn from home on Fridays to accommodate an Educator Preparation Day. Both our in-person and online learners will still have a 30 minute Zoom check in with their teachers on Fridays.
On Friday, March 26 emails were sent to the families of those who wish to return to in-person learning and those who wish to remain online. These emails contained a variety of information about how to prepare for April 12. Links to each of the emails have been included below for your convenience. If you did not receive an email it may mean that we do not have an accurate email on file for you in PowerSchool. Please check your Parent Portal account as well as your SPAM folder to ensure your are receiving the most up-to-date information. Directions on how to create your Parent Portal account and check to make sure we have an accurate email on file can be found here (https://clairemont.sandiegounified.org/parents/power_school/creating_a_power_school_account). If you have questions about your survey or have yet to receive an email confirming your choice, please reach out to me at your earliest convenience (ewilliams4@asandi.net).
Finally, there are a number things you can be doing to get yourself prepared for April 12. Please be sure to review the information in this weeks SWAG and reach out to an administrator if you have any questions.

Watch the CHS Phase 2 Reopening Video. This video will be emailed to all students on Monday, April 5 at their stu.sandi.net email account. It will also be posted on our CHS website.

Students who wish to return to campus for in-person learning must have a completed Parent Acknowledgement of On-Site School Instruction Form on file with Clairemont High School. If families do not return this completed form prior to the start of on-site instruction, their child will not be permitted on campus until the form is received.
Step 1 : Download and complete the Parent Acknowledgement of On-Site School Instruction Form. The form can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
Parent Acknowledgement of On-Site School Instruction Form (If you’d like help in completing the fillable PDF, please use the Using Adobe Reader DC to Complete Fillable Forms job aid.)
Step 2: Use the Opt In Form Submission Survey linked below to submit your completed Parent Acknowledgement of On-Site School Instruction Form.
If you have any questions about this form, please contact me at (ewilliams4@sandi.net). Families will receive communication from CHS this week to either verify that we have received your opt in form or let you know that we have yet to receive it.
CHS is in the process of developing a school reopening orientation video to answer any questions students may have about returning to in-person learning. The video address questions like:
Where do I go on the first day of school?
What do I do if I’m late to school?
What should I bring with me to school?
What is the bathroom policy?
How will lunch work?
What do I do if I need to talk to an administrator/the nurse/a counselor?
And much more…
We plan to post the video on our website on Monday, April 5. The video will also be emailed out to students and families.
If you need assistance with medical orders, please contact Nurse Sascha (alopez-nusser@sandi.net) at your earliest convenience. Blank documents and COVID testing information can all be found on our Virtual Health Office website (https://sites.google.com/sandi.net/chsnursing/covid-testing?authuser=0)
CHS students are being asked to come to the Clairemont campus the week of April 5 to return their Quarter 3 textbooks and pick up materials and textbooks for Quarter 4. (This event will be for ALL CHS students and will be in the same drive-thru format we have used all year). In order to limit the number of students/families accessing the library at any given time, we are asking that students and families adhere to the following pickup schedule:
Seniors - Tuesday, April 6 - 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Juniors - Wednesday, April 7 - 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Sophomores -Thursday, April 8 - 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Freshmen - Friday, April 9 - 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Prior to attending our Textbook Drop Off/Pickup event, we encourage all CHS students to check what books/materials they have borrowed. You can do this by following our Know What You Owe process outlined at the link below.

With athletics in full swing, Clairemont High School and the NFHS Network is providing families with the ability to watch many of our games and competitions from the comfort of their own living room. Simply create an account with NFHS and search "Clairemont" to follow the Chieftains. If you have any questions, please reach out the CHS Athletic Director, Mr. Alfie Nowak (anowak@sandi.net). To get started, check out the flyer linked below.
Dear Freshmen Boys,
Do you like Basketball? Soccer? How about Hockey? Maybe Football? Well, you're in luck because Clairemont's Boys Lacrosse is in need of athletes to help build our program and we are taking all skill levels!
We have everything you need to play and all you need to do is show up in the cul-de-sac any weekday at 4pm (with cleats or running shoes, athletic clothes, your own water bottle, and a breathable mask).
Please ensure you are cleared through athletic clearance and tell Mr. Nowak you are playing boys lacrosse. If you have any questions or want to discuss lacrosse, please reach out to Coach Matt at clairemontlax@gmail.com. See you soon!
Every athlete on Clairemont’s campus has the ability to be tested for COVID every Friday from 12-3. Red, Orange and Yellow tier sports who are at a higher risk of contracting and spreading COVID are highly recommended to complete this free testing every week. It is very likely that Unified will make this mandatory for all student-athletes who are playing in any of the tiers listed above. Right now Football and Water Polo are our only mandated every week testers but again this is subject to change.
Please complete the ROI and UCSD Consent and email a PDF copy to either anowak@sandi.net or alopez-nusser@sandi.net
The instructions provided are easy to follow steps to create your MyChart account through UCSD and how to create an appointment on our testing day. For your first testing confirmation we will need a photo of confirmation(either a screenshot or photo) These are “soft appointment times” which means that if you are unable to make it at your exact time that is acceptable as long as you make it to your appointment within reason.
It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:
As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.

Covid-19 hasn’t stopped the CHS Theatre Club from putting on some fabulous productions. In the Fall, 23 students (and a few family members) worked together to produce their first online production. The virtual production of Everyone Gets Eaten By Sharks was a huge success and we are happy to announce their Spring production of A Lighter Shade of Noir.
In this fabulously funny and high styling take on film, A Lighter Shade of Noir follows Trent Trowel; your typical gumshoe. Searching the mean streets for crimes to solve and dames to fall for. He joins some of the world’s most famous detectives at the International PD gala. There’s Shirley Holmes, Jean Louie Phillip Eustache… and Aunt Beatrice. But is this just an innocent gala? Will the world’s most dastardly villains foil them with a fiendish master plan? Will Aunt Beatrice ever get an English muffin? Everything is not what it seems.
A Lighter Shade of Noir will be streaming on:
Friday, April 16 @ 7pm PT
Saturday, April 17 @ 2pm PT
Friday, April 23 @ 7pm PT
Saturday, April 24 @ 7pm PT
