SHOUT OUTS & SCHOOL INFO

PHASE 2 SCHOOL REOPENING UPDATE

Hey Chieftains,

We can't believe in just ONE DAY we get to roll out the red carpet and see your faces walking on to campus. We are so excited and can't wait to greet you tomorrow, Monday, April 12!

To show some school spirit and Chieftain love, we are asking all students and staff to wear either orange and blue or a Chieftain jersey!

Here are some important reminders for your first day:

  1. Wear Orange and Blue!

  2. Check your schedule in Powerschool prior to Monday to ensure you know your first and second period teacher names and room numbers. For information on how to read your schedule, click the link below:

    1. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IiWMrhLH7F5-i5n8blSSUog0Zh3YWkff/view

  3. Bring your Student ID. This will make your check in process much faster on Monday! Students can use any (high school, middle school, etc.) San Diego Unified ID as long as it has a barcode on it.

  4. Please remember to wear your mask.

  5. Fill out Your Clear Pass before coming to campus.

  6. Turn in Your Opt In Form. Unfortunately, if you have not returned your Opt In Form, we are unable to allow you on campus. Make sure your parents complete the form and email it to Principal Williams (ewilliams4@sandi.net). Please turn this in prior to Monday or, as a last resort bring it with you.

    1. Opt In Form Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gVuqYT5oRD86MVKIijL_kam0mA4tzzsj/view

  7. Check in to campus at the side gate to the right of the front office by the flagpole. The gate will open at 8:15 am.

    1. First Period starts at 8:50 am.

    2. Second Period starts at 10:55 am.

  8. There will be staff and ASB students available if you are unsure where to go; they can guide you to your classes.

  9. FREE Grab and Go lunches will be available for any student who wants one. They can be picked up in front of the cafeteria after 2nd Period.

Please be sure you check out our CHS Reopening Plan Video to get answers to all of your questions about returning to school.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-pgwum3v-Q

Once again, we can't tell you how excited we are to finally see you in person on Monday. We know this has been a challenging and most unusual year, but we hope the last 9 weeks together of this school year will be a wonderful change.

Sincerely,

Principal Williams

SCHOOL REOPENING INFORMATIONAL SESSIONS

For those who missed our CHS School Reopening Informational Sessions, a recording of the meeting can be found on our website. The video has also been included below. Please be sure to review the video at your convenience and reach out to the CHS admin team with any questions.

IN-PERSON OPT IN FORM

Thank you to those who have already submitted their In-Person Opt In Form. As of this afternoon, we still have nearly 100 families that have indicated they would like their child to return to in person learning but have not submitted an Opt In Form. Students who wish to return to campus for in-person learning must have a completed Parent Acknowledgement of On-Site School Instruction Form on file with Clairemont High School. If families do not return this completed form prior to the start of on-site instruction, their child will not be permitted on campus until the form is received.

Step 1 : Download and complete the Parent Acknowledgement of On-Site School Instruction Form. The form can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.

Step 2: Use the Opt In Form Submission Survey linked below to submit your completed Parent Acknowledgement of On-Site School Instruction Form.

If you have any questions about this form, please contact me at (ewilliams4@sandi.net). Families will receive communication from CHS this week to either verify that we have received your opt in form or let you know that we have yet to receive it.

SCHOOL REOPENING INFORMATIONAL VIDEO

Hey Chieftains, want answers to your school reopening questions? Then be sure to check out our orientation video to answer any questions you may have about returning to in-person learning. The video address questions like:

  • Where do I go on the first day of school?

  • What do I do if I’m late to school?

  • What should I bring with me to school?

  • What is the bathroom policy?

  • How will lunch work?

  • What do I do if I need to talk to an administrator/the nurse/a counselor?

  • And much more…

Q3 TEXTBOOK RETURN/Q4 TEXTBOOK PICKUP MAKEUP DAYS

CHS students who were unable to attend the textbook return/pickup days last week can attend one of the two makeup days schedule for this week. Please see the makeup day schedule below:

  • Tuesday, April 13 - 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

  • Thursday, April 15 - 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

If students have questions about their instructional materials, they should contact CHS Librarian, Alison Manning (amanning@sandi.net).

We encourage all CHS students to check what books/materials they have borrowed. You can do this by following our Know What You Owe process outlined at the link below.

MEDICAL CONCERNS

If you need assistance with medical orders, please contact Nurse Sascha (alopez-nusser@sandi.net) at your earliest convenience. Blank documents and COVID testing information can all be found on our Virtual Health Office website (https://sites.google.com/sandi.net/chsnursing/covid-testing?authuser=0)

WEEKLY COVID-19 TESTING AVAILABLE FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS

Clairemont High has been working with UCSD to provide COVID PCR testing and screenings for staff and athletes and optional for students coming on campus (not for sick staff or students with symptoms). We have been testing on Fridays, but will be transitioning to Thursday afternoons after Spring Break.

Please use these links to begin using this service if you are a student or staff going on campus and would like to be tested. Currently it is not for siblings or family members. It is a fantastic opportunity to care for one another when we know that many people can carry COVID without any symptoms.

Please feel free to contact Nurse Sascha with any questions or concerns.

CHS THEATRE PROGRAM IS AT IT AGAIN WITH THEIR SPRING PRODUCTION: A LIGHTER SHARE OF NOIR

Covid-19 hasn’t stopped the CHS Theatre Club from putting on some fabulous productions. In the Fall, 23 students (and a few family members) worked together to produce their first online production. The virtual production of Everyone Gets Eaten By Sharks was a huge success and we are happy to announce their Spring production of A Lighter Shade of Noir.

In this fabulously funny and high styling take on film, A Lighter Shade of Noir follows Trent Trowel; your typical gumshoe. Searching the mean streets for crimes to solve and dames to fall for. He joins some of the world’s most famous detectives at the International PD gala. There’s Shirley Holmes, Jean Louie Phillip Eustache… and Aunt Beatrice. But is this just an innocent gala? Will the world’s most dastardly villains foil them with a fiendish master plan? Will Aunt Beatrice ever get an English muffin? Everything is not what it seems.

A Lighter Shade of Noir will be streaming on:

  • Friday, April 16 @ 7pm PT

  • Saturday, April 17 @ 2pm PT

  • Friday, April 23 @ 7pm PT

  • Saturday, April 24 @ 7pm PT

Tickets can be purchased here:

BOY'S LACROSSE STARTING SOON

Dear Freshmen Boys,

Do you like Basketball? Soccer? How about Hockey? Maybe Football? Well, you're in luck because Clairemont's Boys Lacrosse is in need of athletes to help build our program and we are taking all skill levels!

We have everything you need to play and all you need to do is show up in the cul-de-sac any weekday at 4pm (with cleats or running shoes, athletic clothes, your own water bottle, and a breathable mask).

Please ensure you are cleared through athletic clearance and tell Mr. Nowak you are playing boys lacrosse. If you have any questions or want to discuss lacrosse, please reach out to Coach Matt at clairemontlax@gmail.com. See you soon!

CHS Player's Creed

It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:

As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.
