SHOUT OUTS!

KyXy 96.5's Tribute to Teachers Winner is Clairemont's Own Jim "Fletch" Fletcher

On Tuesday, November 12, George Sandoval of Entercom and Monica Jones of American Assets Trust surprised CHS History teacher, Jim "Fletch" Fletcher and his 2nd period class with their Tribute to Teachers award. Fletch was recognized for the way he connects with students and cultivates their passions. He bleeds orange and blue and we appreciate all the hard work and dedication he puts into his craft for the students and staff of CHS. Way to go Fletch!

Fun Fact about Mr. Fletcher: He is the creator and curator of the Museum of American Presidency located right here at CHS. His museum was recently featured in CNN Travel's "Only in San Diego: 5 Unusual Things for Travelers to Do."

Early National Letter Of Intent Day A Huge Win for our Lady Chieftains

Congratulations are in order for two of our lady chieftain student-athletes. Senior Ashlynn Sauerwein (Water Polo) and senior Maddie Taylor (Softball) committed to the University of Indiana (Ashlynn) and Santa Clara University(Maddie) on Wednesday at Petco Park. Both young ladies are leaders on and off the field and are amazing ambassadors for their sports and their school. They have both truly earned the privilege to play at the next level!

Designing School Strategies for Global Success

The career world our children will enter when they graduate in 2030 will be a very different world from today. Our children will be competing for jobs with highly skilled graduates from across the globe. What skills do we want our students to graduate with in order to compete locally and globally by the time they graduate in the year 2030?

LCAP PowerPoint

On Thursday, October 24, Dr. Lamont Jackson hosted an informational session in which he presented the district's initial thinking around our LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). If you were unable to attend the session, a copy of the PowerPoint can be seen HERE.

We want your input!

Together we will define what our students will need to make a powerful difference in our community and in the world. The input you give will assist in developing Vision 2030, our 3 year LCAP and our SDUSD graduate profile. Please use the following link to share your input on the formulation of the LCAP; SDUSD Vision 2030/Graduate Profile/LCAP Stakeholder Input.

Clairemont Recognized for Linked Learning Work

Clairemont recently had some wonderful publicity from our friends at the Kauffman Foundation after a recent site visit. District leaders from around the country came and spent a day with the CHS students, staff, and administrators to learn about our Linked Learning transformation. With the recent legislation (AB 1240 - see below), many districts and sites are engaged in conversations about how to expand their pathways options and provide students with more rigorous and relevant educational experiences. See what the Kauffman Foundation had to say about the work here at CHS.

Clairemont Cares: 100 Acts of Kindness

Congrats to Ms. Dearborn's period 4 class for completing 100 Acts of Kindness of SIX weeks!! Her students accepted the random acts of kindness challenge and completed a combined total of 100 acts of kindness. They had all semester to complete the challenge, but her students really stepped up and completed the challenge within 6 weeks.

SAVE THE DATE

SAY San Diego - Vaping Prevention

On Monday, Dec 9, Clairemont High School students will participate in a Vaping Prevention assembly put on by SAY San Diego.

“Vaping” is a term introduced by the electronic smoking device industry to refer to any electronic "vaporizer", such as E-cigs, Vapes, vape pens, vaporizers, and E-hookahs. The term can incorrectly lead people to believe that using electronic vaporizers produces a harmless water vapor, but in reality these devices produce potentially harmful aerosols that are inhaled into the lungs and exhaled into the environment. Students and staff will have the opportunity to hear the harmful effects of Vaping on their lungs and their bodies as well as listen to the harmful chemicals being used to make the liquid that teens put in their vaping pens, and listen to the latest data and findings of Vaping.

Because these companies are targeting our youth, we need to be proactive and educate students of the effects of these substances on their bodies, brains and their health in general.

On Tuesday December 10th, there will be a Parent Engagement meeting to follow up with parents on what students heard during the Vaping Education Presentation. All parents are welcome to come and get informed on the harmful effects of Vaping from our Community Partner, SAY SD's Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Prevention Team. CHS Player's Creed

It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:

As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.
