SHOUT OUTS & SCHOOL INFO

Textbook Pick/Return

The CHS Library will begin accepting returns for all Quarter 1 books, novels and calculators on Tuesday, October 13th. However, if students need to keep their instructional materials through the end of Quarter 1, they may do so. If students have already checked out their Quarter 2 books, they may keep these through the end of Quarter 2. As soon as your Q1 class is finished with books or other library items they may be returned in one of two ways:

OUTSIDE THE FRONT OFFICE: Monday - Friday between 9am and 4pm. A cart will be labeled “Q1 Library Returns”. Put your items in the cart. This option will be available to students and families starting Tuesday, October 13.

AT THE LIBRARY BACK DOOR – Every Thursday from 9am to 3:30pm. A cart will be labeled “Q1 Library Returns”. Put your items in the cart.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • How do I know what items I have checked out? Go to destiny.sandi.net, Click on Clairemont, Login with your school ID, Select the My Info tab.
  • What if I lost my book or calculator? We have no extra books, novels or calculators so you will be asked to pay for a replacement. Email the librarian (amanning@sandi.net) for help.
  • What if my schedule changed and I don’t need the book I checked out for Q2? Return any un-needed Q2 items along with your Q1 items using one of the methods listed above.
  • When can I get my books for Quarter 2? We will have scheduled Checkout days during the week of October 26. More detailed information about these days will be shared by Principal Williams in an email to students and families as well as in the SWAG.
  • Do I keep my Chromebook? Yes, Chromebooks are to be kept for the duration of Online Learning. Only students who are leaving the district are being asked to return their Chromebooks.
  • What if my Chromebook doesn’t work? Please contact the Family Support Line at 619-732-1400 for help. We are not allowed to take back broken Chromebooks at Clairemont HS.
  • What if I have books or a calculator from last year? Return it. You will not be charged a late fine.

In the next week, you will receive an email with "drive through" days of final book returns for Q1

AP TESTING

The window is now open for students to sign up to take the AP exam. Students will need to follow all steps listed on the following website https://aptsusa.com/clairemont/ .Students may signup now until 10/30/20. Exam fees are $95.00. After 10/30/20 there will be a $40.00 late fee. Students who qualify for a free and reduced code will need to speak with their counselor. A free and reduced exam is $5. This year’s exam, no matter the environment (distance vs. In person learning), will be a normal exam (last year it was only multiple choice).

If you have any additional questions about AP Testing, please reach out to Vice Principal Sarah Thomas (srodondithomas@sandi.net).

CHS ATHLETICS & HOME PERIODS

The Fall Athletics Season is set to begin on December 12. As a result, a student's athletic eligibility for the Fall Season will be based on their Quarter 2 grades which will be reported on Friday, December 11. Students who wish to participate in athletics must be enrolled in at least two Clairemont classes during Quarter 2. Mesa classes and UCSD classes will not count toward athletic eligibility. Therefore, all students who currently have a home period in their Quarter 2 schedule and would like to participate in athletics, must request a meeting with their counselor to adjust their schedule to include two Clairemont classes.

CHS Player's Creed

It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:

As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.
