ATHLETICS
2nd Annual CHS Unity Basketball Game
Clairemont High School held it's 2nd Annual "Unity Basketball Game" on Wednesday, February 6. The event combined our current boys and girls Varsity basketball team with student-athletes with special needs who have expressed interest in participating in high school athletics. The teams (Orange vs. Blue) played a game consisting of four 10-minute quarters. The atmosphere was electric and the event was a wonderful time of joy and celebration. Thank you to everyone for making this event incredibly memorable for our students and families.
Check out KUSI's coverage of the event here.
CHS Player's Creed
It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:
As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.

HEALTH AND MEDICAL SOPHOMORES SHINE AT CLAIREMONT TOWN COUNCIL MEETING
The Health and Medical Science Sophomores wrapped up their first semester project "Sugar to Heroin - drug prevention in our community" with a 10 minute presentation to over 100 Clairemont Community Members at the Clairemont Town Council Meeting in February. Araya Milus, Joshua Baxter, and Devin Lisson represented our students and did an awesome job sharing what they learned and what the community needs to know about each of the substances they studied: Bath Salts, Fentanyl, and Marijuana. Our SAY San Diego Industry Partner, Lisa Bridges, made this connection happen. We are so proud of our Health Academy Sophomores!
IMPACTing Elementary Physical Fitness
School partnerships in action! 9th grade students at Clairemont High School’s Academy of Health and Medical Sciences are serving as mentors, role models, and buddies to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Toler Elementary. The CHS students will spend nine Tuesdays supporting the Toler students in completing the FitnessGram pre-assessment test and participating in age appropriate, fun, fitness activities that will help the students increase their flexibility and cardio in order to improve their overall health. They are using the IMPACT program, developed by Lynn Barnes-Wallace and UCSD.
The 9th graders saw a need, as Toler Elementary is one of five Elementary Schools in the Clairemont Community Cluster of Schools that currently does not have a PE teacher. The high school students wanted to help and were able to solve this real-world problem, while documenting their journey with quantitative and qualitative data. The Clairemont Cluster is looking forward to seeing the growth in all students involved as the project progresses.

The HMS Advisory Board Meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, February 14 has been cancelled. The next HMS Advisory Board Meeting is March 14 from 2:30 - 3:30 in room 110 at CHS.
