UTK
Unit 3: Awesome Animals
Essential Question: How are animals awesome?
Project Description: This project introduces young learners to the animal kingdom through the essential question, “How are animals awesome?” Students bring in stuffed animals from home to share their previous knowledge of animals and are introduced to an awesome animal each day. Students investigate where animals live, how they move, and their special adaptations and behaviors that help them survive. Students engage in song, movement, art and hands-on activities to reinforce their learning. Math is integrated through sorting and graphing animals and engineering is integrated as students build birds’ nests. Students’ final product is a model of their favorite animal that highlights that animal’s awesome characteristics. Students share their love for animals by exhibiting their final products for community members.
