¡Hola (for some of you it’s, hola de nuevo!) I am Profesora Ramos—aka. Profe, and I am thrilled to be back at MEA as part of the faculty. For those of you who don’t know me yet, I was the office manager at MEA for four years (2018-2022) and had the pleasure of working with our fantastic MEA families with all administrative procedures. I also did my student teaching at MEA during the virtual era of the pandemic. Since then, I have received my teaching credential and master’s in education; I received training in International Baccalaureate through the Florida League of IB Schools in St. Pete Beach; I was a teacher at Mission Bay High School for two years, teaching Spanish 5-6, 7-8 Honors, and the High Level 1 and 2 of International Baccalaureate Spanish; I completed Strand A of the Southern Area International Languages Network training (Stanford University units); and I am raising an 8th grader. Pheew! 😅
My background in languages ranges from being a native Spanish speaker, to learning French in high school and falling in love with foreign languages. I graduated from UCSD with a BA in French Literature--which required me to learn a secondary foreign language in the process, so I decided to learn Italian. And since then, I have been a lover of languages and the written word. 💗
My teaching philosophy focuses on providing comprehensible input and input in the zone of proximal development, along with the legacy method of teaching grammar. I like to use student self-assessment, monitoring, and reflection to empower students to own their learning. 💪🎓
I am excited to be teaching all levels of Spanish and AVID this year! Returning to MEA is like coming home to see old family—and some new one—and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with your students and each and every one of you at home. 💐
