Assign assignments that are review only and that are fun or integrate games into learning
Shorten assignments this day and integrate movement breaks (e.g., stretching) or mindfulness videos/music throughout the class period
When possible, review the assignments the students will work on so that they know what is coming up
Review behavior expectations that emphasize how to ask for a break when they need one, what they can do during the break, and other behaviors that result when students are attempting to escape or avoid tasks
(Consequence)
Whatever tasks the student did not complete, require that they complete them the following day.
Have the student write or record a restorative message to the sub and/or peers that were affected by the behavior
Review and practice strategies the student can use when frustrated with someone else or an assignment (e.g., ask for a break or shorten the assignment)
Set up a buddy system with another teacher that the sub can use for frequent or intensive misbehaviors
