(Proactive)
Create a classroom routine in which students earn free computer time after they are completed with their assignment or after they work on-task for a pre-determined amount of time
Assess the level of difficulty of the task and determine if it is too difficult for the student/s. Re-teach or accommodate task as needed
Use active supervision (e.g., walking around, checking in on students) during instruction and independent/group tasks
Ask students to turn their computers around when it is not needed (e.g., whole group instruction)
Chunk tasks so that they require periodic check-in's or participation from the student (to keep the student occupied with academic use of computer)
(Consequence)
Remind student of pre-taught classroom expectations for computer use
Re-teach classroom expectations regarding computer use
For continued behaviors, meet individually with the student to gather more information regarding the reason for the inappropriate computer use and co-construct a contract that outlines accommodations, reinforcement, and agreement from the classroom teachers and student
