Install the Scratch app on students' computers (Windows, Mac, Chrome OS/Chromebook, and Android available). You may need to get permission/have this done by your IT department.
Have students:
Click on the starter code link for the day's project. This will open the project on the Scratch website.
Do NOT have students login. In the top right corner it should say "Join Scratch" and "Sign In". Students should not click those.
3. Have students click on "See Inside" and then select File -> Save to your computer in the top left.
4. The Scratch Download File dialog box appears at the bottom left of the Scratch web site page.
5. Click on SHOW IN FOLDER in the dialog box (do this quickly as dialog box disappears) and have students note in what folder their project is saved (often, it is saved to "Downloads").
6. On Chromebook, click the Play Store App located on The Shelf (the toolbar at the bottom of the screen containing the row of apps).
7. On the Play Store App, double-click on the Scratch App to open it.
8. In the Scratch App, click Import located in the upper left hand corner.
9. In the Select a file to open dialog box, Downloads folder should be selected.
10. Then locate downloaded Scratch file from step 3; example: Week 2 Lesson 2_Medium.sb3. Note: Scratch files are identified as .sb3 files.
11. Click Open in lower left corner.
12. Double-click on the Scratch file you downloaded to open it in the Scratch App and work on it. Work is automatically saved.
