School Activities, Senior Privileges, and Commencement

Participation in dances, prom, senior activities, commencement, and other designated school events is a privilege. Students must meet the school’s attendance, citizenship, conduct, and other eligibility expectations.

Eligibility Requirements

To remain eligible for designated events, students must:

• attend all scheduled classes for the full period;

• have a valid pass when outside class;

• maintain a citizenship score and academic GPA of 2.0 or higher;

• exemplify Falcon PRIDE;

• have no unresolved unverified absence codes (A), truancy codes (Z), or missed-more-than-30-minutes codes (W);

• have no more than three tardy codes (T) per semester; and

• have no unresolved unexcused absence codes (U), except for the one-day grace allowance below.

The criteria are consistent across designated activities, but the attendance-eligibility deadline varies by event. SRHS will publish the applicable deadline. Purchasing a ticket, paying fees, ordering graduation materials, or making plans does not confirm eligibility.

One-Day Unexcused Absence Grace Allowance

A student may receive a grace allowance for one parent-verified, full-day unexcused absence per semester. The allowance applies only to U codes recorded on the same school date, including a full block-schedule day.

The allowance does not apply to truancy, leaving campus without authorization, selectively missing an individual class, repeated early releases, or U codes spread across multiple dates.

The U code remains on the attendance record. The allowance protects eligibility for designated school activities only and does not remove the absence from the student’s overall absence rate, chronic-absence calculation, truancy determination, attendance interventions, or possible SART or SARB referral.

Published Deadlines and Attendance Recovery

Students and families must monitor PowerSchool, address possible errors promptly, complete any attendance recovery by the published deadline, and respond to eligibility communication.

A late verification or correction request does not extend the deadline or guarantee that eligibility will be restored before the event.

School-approved attendance recovery may address unresolved A, Z, or W codes; tardies beyond the three-tardy allowance; and U codes not covered by the one-day grace allowance. Recovery does not change or excuse the original attendance mark and must be completed and documented by the deadline.

Senior Privileges and Commencement

Earning a diploma and participating in commencement are separate matters. A student may complete graduation requirements and earn a diploma but remain ineligible for commencement or another senior activity if published participation expectations have not been met.

Seniors must meet graduation requirements, recover applicable senior-year attendance infractions by the published attendance-eligibility deadline, maintain a citizenship score of 2.0 or higher, meet conduct expectations, and follow senior-activity and commencement procedures.

Attendance concerns occurring after an earlier eligibility review may affect participation in a later senior activity or commencement.
