BECOMING A CAMP COUNSELOR

Step #1: Complete the Counselor Interest Form

Visit sandalschurch.com/camp to complete the online interest form and apply to be a counselor for Summer Camp 2025.

By filling out this form you are NOT a summer camp counselor, you are simply notifying us that you are available on the dates of camp and are interested in serving. After you have filled out the form, the Kids/Youth lead will reach out with more information/training for you to complete before becoming an OFFICIAL summer camp counselor.

Step #2: COMPLETE A LIVE SCAN

If you have previously been live scanned with Sandals Church, you do NOT need to do it again—your live scan does NOT expire.

However, if you have NOT been live scanned by Sandals Church, you MUST complete it before attending camp or continuing to serve on a team.

Please reach out to your campus Kids or Youth lead to complete the live scan process.

Step #3: COMPLETE MANDATED REPORTER TRAINING

To comply with California state law, Sandals Church requires all kids and youth volunteers to complete mandated reporter training

This training DOES expire. CA law says all mandated reporter training MUST be redone every 2 years for the training to be VALID.

If you have taken this training before, please be sure to check the "Date of Completion" on the certificate.

If you took the training BEFORE JULY 1ST, 2023, you WILL need to take the training again.

If you are unsure if you have completed this training or wish to know the completion date of your previously submitted certificate, please reach out to your campus kids/youth lead, they can help.

***ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE TRAINING, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR CERTIFICATE AT THE LINK BELOW***

There are 2 different certificate submission links.

If you applied to serve with KIDS CAMP, please select the KIDS CAMP SUBMISSION LINK.

If you applied to serve with YOUTH CAMP, please select the YOUTH CAMP SUBMISSION LINK.

STEP #4: FILL OUT THE FULL CAMP COUNSELOR APPLICATION

Once your kids or youth lead has confirmed that you have completed a Live Scan and your current AB506 certificate, you will be sent a link to complete a Kids/Youth FULL Camp Counselor Application.

STEP #5: ATTEND AN IN-PERSON CAMP TRAINING

Summer Camp In-Person Training will take place at each Sandals Church Campus.

Your campus Kids and Youth lead will be joining together to plan and lead one campus Kids/Youth Camp Counselor training.

This training is mandatory for each camp counselor, if you are unable to attend your campus training, please do not attend a different campus training, please reach out to your campus kids or youth lead to notify them you cannot attend and to schedule a one-on-one make-up training with them to review the content.

Please attend the training at the campus you registered for when COMPLETING THE FULL APPLICATION.

FAQ

I have questions about where I am at in the counselor application process. Who do I reach out to?

Please contact your campus kids or youth lead for more information.

I previously took the AB-506 training but can't find my certificate OR I am unsure if I took one of these training courses. Who do I reach out to?

Please contact your campus kids or youth lead for more information.

I can NOT attend the IN-PERSON camp training at my campus. What do I do?

Please contact the campus kids or youth (depending on what camp you applied to serve with) lead, notify them you cannot attend, AND schedule a time for a one-on-one makeup training with them.

If I can NOT attend the IN-PERSON training at my campus, can I attend a different campuses training?

We kindly ask they if you cannot attend your campus training that you do NOT attend a different campuses training, even if that date/time is more convenient. Campus camp training is designed to be specific to the campus you are serving with. Failure to receive that specific training may result in complications at camp.

When will I know my cabin's team color?

We send every camp counselor and camper an email at least one week before summer camp notifying them of their team color so they can pack accordingly.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your kids/youth lead.

When will I know who my co-counselor is?

Kids Counselors: We send all Kids Counselors a list of the campers in their cabin and the name of their co-lead at least one week before camp so you can contact your co-counselor and begin doing camper calls.

Youth Counselors: We do NOT disclose any rooming arrangements to campers, counselors, or parents before summer camp. All youth campers/counselors will learn who they are rooming with on departure day. We do our best to put campers who attend groups on Wednesday nights with their Wednesday night leaders.

Kids and Youth leads place campers and counselors in cabins, if you have any questions, requests, or concerns, please feel free to contact them.
