Since 2022, Sancta Maria College has been engaging on a School of Sanctuary journey.
This means we strive to make our school as safe, welcoming and inclusive as possible for all students and their families. It is a journey that requires a careful and patient fostering of a culture where each member of our school community strives to achieve being a welcoming school for all.
Not just staff.
Not just students.
Not just parents or guardians.
But us all.
By adopting the three Sanctuary Principles, LEARN/ACTION/ SHARE, we are becoming an ever more inclusive and empathetic place of intercultural learning and practice. We are learning to understand and respond to the challenges and needs of those who seek sanctuary in our school, our community, in Ireland and in the wider world.
We celebrate and welcome diversity in all its wonderful forms and colours and we are proud to act as a beacon of sanctuary and kindness in our community.

October 2024, Sancta Maria College had the pleasure of witnessing a School of Sanctuary monitoring event in Galway Educate Together Secondary School. It was an honour and a privilege to enjoy this special day and witness Galway ETSS become a Champion School of Sanctuary - maith sibh GETSS agus ní haon ionadh é - bhí sibh iontach!
