Favorite Saxon Memories | My favorite memories at South were the school events where everyone would come together because I felt like there was a lot of school pride and a sense of community among teachers and students. Just connecting with friends in the lobby or library after school, lots of different interesting conversations with all sorts of people.
What were you involved in at South? | Choir, DECA, Environmental Club, Tennis
Favorite Teachers | Dixon, Eriksen, Knecht, McLean
Favorite Classes | Business, Choir, Environmental Studies, French
What are you up to right now? | I attend the Univ. of Oregon where I’m a sophomore. I am working on a Product Design major with a double minor in French and Sustainable Business. I’m also working on a custom clothing brand “Philanthropy Phabrics” (see video above) with another Saxon alum, Sophia Cobb '19. I also do freelance graphic design, social media, and art work on the side.
What are your life goals? | Have a job in a creative field. Maybe as an art director, production designer, graphic designer, fashion designer or social media manager. I’d also like to have a family and live in a warm State. And I’ve been learning French for 5.5 years ans I would be happy to finally dive into the culture and be surrounded by authentic French speakers.
What advice would you give your high school self? | Challenge my environment more in order to improve my experience and be more comfortable. Be more confident in taking up space—especially as a Black woman in a white institution. The pressure to shrink myself in order to blend in and live without judgment is real.
