For Saline XC, Regionals is a simple assignment: Survive and advance. As far as we can tell, this is the 20th straight qualification for the state finals for Saline Boys XC. We don't have all the data on other teams, but we imagine there are few if any who have matched this streak.
Brennan has been working hard all year and waiting for his time to dip under 16. He's coming into peak form just in time as he notched his first sub 16 at Regionals. This bodes well for "burning down the barn" at the state meet.
I've written here before about Jack's injury struggles and his unwavering dedication to get back on the varsity roster this Fall. From the moment the gun went off, Jack made it VERY clear a varsity spot at the state meet belongs to him. A 16:50 showing as our 5th man on the day made that decision very easy to make.
To allow some juniors to do battle for a state meet spot in the Regional Championship race, we put Gavin Bast in the Open race. Undeterred by this change, Gavin ran a shiny new PR of 16:44.5 to run the 5th fastest time of any Hornet this Fall. Extremely impressive to see a freshman rise to the occasion and run the 8th fastest freshman performance in school history.
