Can we help?

In these confusing times, when folks are confined to their home, it might be helpful if someone could run an essential errand or two for you. Maybe you could use a friendly phone call, someone to check in periodically to see how you're managing. Or you might need some help navigating social media or online purchasing. We have a team of volunteers who could help in any of these areas:

Connect

Being stuck at home can leave you feeling isolated and anxious. Share your details and we will connect you with someone at St. Raphael's. You can request a connection in three different ways: periodically receive a handmade "art project" to post on your refrigerator from another family, an uplifting postcard or letter in the mail from another family, or a phone call from an adult who can call and check in with you on a regular basis. We will connect you with someone at St. Raphael's who can call and check in with you on a regular basis. It's like having a phone "pen pal"!

Help with confusing technology/online purchasing

Do you need someone who can help you use online technology? It could be how to make an online purchase, how to connect with friends on social media, or even how to video chat with your grandchildren.

Pick up grocery and pharmacy orders at local businesses and bring them to your home

Do you need someone to pick up your purchase from a local business and deliver it to your front doorstep? Let us help you by picking up the items that you have purchased online. This is for essential items only (medications, food, and household supplies). These requests are often time sensitive. Complete your purchase/order with a local grocery store, pharmacy, or big box store and we will pick it up for you.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Volunteers will not be handling cash, credit cards or purchasing items at the store for you; that's between you and the business.

  • There will be no physical contact; volunteers will not enter your home or open your door.

  • Some pharmacy orders may not be eligible for pick up by volunteers.

  • Volunteers cannot provide transportation.

Below are some common links to online ordering at a variety of local shopping/pharmacy websites. This is not an exhaustive list. (These links do not indicate an endorsement. Clicking on these links will take you outside of the St. Raphael website.)

Just call me

While filling out an online request form greatly assists us in matching your needs to a volunteer, sometimes it feels 'just too much'. You may leave a clear phone message with your name, contact information and request on the following phone number and we will return your call: ‪(919) 865-5788

Please note that...

Due to social distancing and the health needs of vulnerable populations we are not able to enter someone's home, have any physical contact, or provide transportation. We are not in a position to provide personal care, medical advice or household tasks.
