The Who Was? History Bee

is open to students in 3rd-5th grades across the United States.

What is the Who Was History Bee?

The Who Was History Bee is a trivia contest being held across the U.S. during the 2019-2020 school year. The winning student earns a $10,000 college scholarship, and their school wins a library of Who Was? books and fun signage celebrating the big Bee win!

How does the Who Was History Bee Work?

Here’s how the competition breaks down:

Classroom and School Bee

Classroom Bee:

Students go head to head in this quick-moving classroom competition. This level of the Bee consists of oral exam questions.

School Bee:

The top winners from each classroom compete to win the title of school champion. The School Bee must have a minimum of 10 student


School and Classroom Bees will be held during October 7th-December-20th 2019.

Proctored Exam

(This level of the Bee also consists of oral exam questions.)

The school champion takes a proctored exam. This exam will determine the ten finalists who go on to the final. The proctored written

exam consists of 80% multiple-choice/open-ended questions and 20% short essay.

January 6th-February 14th, 2020

Top Ten finalists Announced:

April 7, 2020

Final Competition:

The final competition will be held LIVE the week of May4th. This final competition will consist of oral exam questions.
