There is no maximum number of players per team.
Players may be students, teachers, or staff.
Every player must belong to the Priory assigned to that team.
Students, teachers, and staff from other Priories are not eligible, even if they are members of the same House.
Priory assignments are listed on the official Intramural website.
Players may only participate for their assigned Priory team.
The use of an ineligible player may result in an automatic forfeit.
The Director of Intramurals has final authority on all eligibility questions.
Games are played with 5 players on defense.
Teams may have unlimited players available as substitutes.
Every player present should have an opportunity to participate.
Substitutions may be made between innings or during dead-ball situations.
The Intramural Director may adjust the number of players based on field size, participation, or scheduling.
Games begin 10 minutes after the class before lunch ends.
Captains meet with the officials before the game.
A coin toss or rock-paper-scissors determines which team bats first.
The defensive team must have the required number of players on the field before play begins.
Each batter receives 3 strikes.
A foul ball counts as a strike.
A foul ball cannot be strike three unless it is intentionally bunted.
Batters must remain within the designated batter's box.
The batter may not throw or intentionally interfere with the bat after making contact with the ball.
No bunting.
A batter who is hit by a pitch is awarded first base unless the batter intentionally moves into the pitch.
A batter is out when:
They strike out.
A fair ball is caught before touching the ground.
A force play is completed at the appropriate base.
A runner is tagged with the ball when tagging is permitted.
They interfere with a defensive player.
They leave the designated running area or commit another major violation.
The pitcher must pitch from the designated pitching area.
Pitchers may use any legal throwing motion.
No intentional throwing directly at a batter.
Dangerous or intentionally excessive pitches may result in a warning, dead ball, or player removal at the referee's discretion.
The Intramural Director may establish pitching limits before the season.
Runners must advance in the proper order: 1st → 2nd → 3rd → Home.
Runners may not intentionally interfere with defensive players.
Runners must remain within the designated base-running area.
No leading off before the pitch.
Runners may not steal bases unless the Intramural Director announces that stealing is allowed.
A runner who leaves the designated playing area may be called out.
A ball hit outside the designated fair territory is foul.
A ball that lands in fair territory and then moves foul is determined by where it first touches the ground.
A ball caught in fair territory before touching the ground is an out.
The referee has final authority on fair/foul calls.
The Intramural Director will establish the home-run boundary before play.
A ball hit beyond the designated home-run boundary is a home run.
Any ball that leaves the designated playing area may be ruled a home run, ground-rule double, or dead ball depending on the field setup.
The same boundary rules apply to both teams.
Defensive players must remain within the designated playing area.
Players may not intentionally interfere with a runner.
No excessive physical contact is permitted.
Defensive players may not intentionally throw the ball at a runner's head.
A runner may be tagged only in a manner allowed by the referee.
A force out occurs when a runner is required to advance and the defensive player controls the ball while touching the appropriate base.
A tag out occurs when a defensive player legally tags a runner with the ball.
The referee will determine whether the runner reached the base before the out was completed.
The ball remains live unless the referee declares it dead.
Runners may continue to advance on defensive errors and overthrows.
If the ball leaves the designated playing area, the referee will determine the appropriate base advancement.
Players should not chase the ball into unsafe areas.
Games will be played for the number of innings announced by the Intramural Director.
The Intramural Director may shorten games because of:
Lunch schedule
Weather
Field availability
School schedule
The game clock and/or inning limit will be announced before play begins.
A mercy rule may be used when one team has a large lead.
The Intramural Director will establish the mercy-rule score before the season or game.
The goal is to keep games competitive and ensure games finish on time.
Players may not:
Fight
Push or shove
Threaten opponents or officials
Excessively argue with officials
Taunt opponents
Intentionally throw equipment
Intentionally make dangerous plays
Unsportsmanlike behavior may result in:
Warning
Out
Ejection
Forfeit
Additional disciplinary action
Repeated misconduct may result in removal from future Intramural games.
Teams must have enough eligible players to meet the minimum number required to begin play.
If a team is not ready 15 minutes after the bell, the game may be forfeited.
Using an ineligible player may result in an automatic forfeit.
Forfeits count as official losses.
Games end 2–5 minutes before the first bell, at the referee's discretion.
The Intramural Director will attempt to give a 2-minute and 1-minute warning.
Referees control the official ending of the game.
If the game is tied when time expires, the Intramural Director may use extra innings or another approved tiebreaker.
Referees are responsible for:
Balls and strikes
Fair/foul calls
Outs
Base running
Scoring
Game time
Player safety
Enforcing the rules
Referee decisions are final during play.
Players must return all bats, balls, bases, and other Intramural equipment.
Teams should leave the playing area clean.
Referees submit the final score and game MVP to the Intramural Director.
THE DIRECTOR OF INTRAMURALS HAS FINAL SAY ON ALL RULES, DISPUTES, ELIGIBILITY QUESTIONS, AND DISCIPLINARY MATTERS.
