All classes are taught by a credentialed Sage Oak teacher. "LIVE!" classes take place weekly via Zoom meetings or other live online platforms. Classes that are not labeled "LIVE!" will be conducted via email, Google Classroom, recorded video, or other communication platforms on a weekly basis.

Class Description: Kevin Henkes is a popular children’s author who introduces various topics and themes through his fun and cute characters of mice. This is part of a four week author study in which we will read a book each week and explore various themes, such as friendship, while engaging in a variety of activities. The books in the selection include Chrysanthemum, Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse, Julius Baby of the World, and Chester’s Way. The objective is for students to gain a growth mind set as they begin to understand the author’s unique characters and realize how the characters grow and develop throughout each story. Students will enjoy meeting new characters, making real life connections, and engaging in extension activities.

Class Description: Join me in studying some of my favorite Eric Carle books! We will read a new story live each week and talk about the books by looking for patterns, labeling characters, and having students help me put the story back in order. Each week I will send resources before class for you to help your student prepare and activities for you to complete after class if you would like!

Class Description: In this course, students will participate in a pre-recorded interactive read alouds. Each week will begin with a short lesson to target different comprehension skills. Then, the students will listen to a picture book read aloud where they will be prompted to participate through differentiated worksheets which target the comprehension skill being practiced. Students will have opportunities to share their work and optional follow-up activities to do at home.

Class Description: Do you love listening to stories? Do you enjoy being creative and making crafts? Then this is the class for you. Join us for weekly stories being read to you. Sit back and relax as I make the story come alive. After the book is finished, be prepared to make an original masterpiece with common supplies found around the house. I am encouraging students to share their artwork via Padlet. This class is a no brainer for a parent looking to buy themselves a few extra minutes while their child is engaged in educational and fun activities.

During this enrichment class, you will read the story as a family and connect with others in the group via fun, online, interactive sites. During each class session, a picture book will be read aloud and connected to the food item which will be cooked. Then there will be a cooking tutorial. Students will connect literature to their lives in a yummy way. Optional educational extension activities will be posted for each book. After each class students can post a video to show off their creations to other students in their class! Classes can be viewed at your own pace which allows for the ability to pause while cooking. There will be an optional live class where students can show off an edible creation of their own that is connected to literature. Let's encourage a passion for reading while enjoying tasty treats with friends!

Class Description: All children have opinions, let's teach them how to put them into a well-crafted paragraph! Each week we will enjoy a popular children’s literature book and write an opinion paragraph based on the book. I will read the book to the class, discuss the opinion writing prompt, give direction on the “Oreo” writing approach, and students will then share their opinion paragraph with each other on Flipgrid!

Class Description: Each week we will explore and learn how to write two different types of poems! During each class we will read example poems, brainstorm ideas for shared group poems, and then write poems on our own! Over the course of 4 weeks, we will learn how to write a Diamante Poem, Haiku, Cinquain, Acrostic Poem, Clerihew, Five Senses Poem, Shape Poem and Color Poem.

Class Description: Explore different elements in strengthening reading comprehension. Skills included are: Context Clues, Inferences, Main Idea, Author’s Purpose. For each skill you will be able to listen to an instructional video, play a game, and complete a worksheet to be sent back for grading/feedback. Also included are several Fiction and Non-Fiction stories along with comprehension worksheets. These also may be submitted for grading/feedback.

Class Description: Mrs. Piggle Wiggle knows everything there is to know about children. When a distraught parent calls her because her daughter Mary has turned into an answer-backer, or Dick has become selfish, or Allen has decided to become a slow-eater-tiny-bite-taker, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle has the cure. Her solutions always work, and have plenty of laughs along the way. This is a 4-week novel study on "Mrs. Piggle Wiggle" in a live class format using Zoom. Students will receive assignments and assigned chapters before the live meeting using Google Classroom. The live zoom classes should run about 30 minutes long on average, but may be slightly shorter or longer depending on the week. Assigned chapters must be read prior to the live Zoom meeting each week.

Class Description: By the Great Horn Spoon is a classic American novel about a twelve-year-old boy named Jack, who heads to California to search for gold to recoup the loss of his family's fortune. Joined by his trusty butler, Praiseworthy, Jack finds adventure and trouble at every turn. This story is the perfect combination of laugh-out-loud moments mixed with important insights into one of the most famous points in California's history.
Over 4 weeks students will read/listen to the book and complete activities for each day including vocabulary, comprehension questions, and a few social studies activities based on the Gold Rush period.

Class Description: This class includes four video sessions covering the usage of commas, capitalization, quotation marks, and how to avoid run-on sentences. The sessions will include a short animated video, a read-along activity from a Grammar Tales story book, a demonstration of how to apply the grammar rules, and an optional worksheet, which can be printed and completed after the class. A foldable mini-book may also be printed and assembled which includes extended activities.

Class Description: In this 4-week study, we will read and immerse ourselves in the award-winning novel, The Sign of the Beaver. As we journey through the wilderness with Matt and Attean, we will learn more about the relationships built between white settlers and Indians in the 1700s. Each week, we will independently read the assigned chapters. Then, we will complete engaging activities that focus on comprehension, vocabulary, and reflective skills. These activities will be posted using the interactive platform, Seesaw, in which the teacher will be able to provide feedback and share student work. Class Description: Are you a book lover? Do you love animals? Then this is the place for you! Each week, you will read and/or listen to the book, The One and Only Ivan and complete interactive Google Slide activities assigned via Google Classroom. You will also participate in a live book club style discussion of the reading using the Zoom platform once a week. Our culminating activity will include the making of a movie poster highlighting all of the major parts of this award winning book. The One and Only Ivan was made into a movie and will release on April 14th. What a great way to spark a compare and contrast activity once our enrichment class concludes. I can't wait to "see" you all soon!

Class Description: Looking for a FUN way to get together and discuss a great book about friendship and adventure. Join our Bridge to Terabithia BOOK CLUB where we will meet to discuss the book and do some extension activities together and at home. Bridge to Terabithia is about Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke, two fifth-graders who become friends and create an imaginary land called Terabithia, where they can go to forget about their problems.

We will dive deeper into one of their famous poems and learn about the various techniques that they used. Class Description: This class covers the whole novel, Esperanza Rising, by Pam Muñoz Ryan. In this riches to rags story, your student will explore an infamous time in history, the Great Depression, through the eyes of Esperanza Ortega, daughter of a wealthy rancher whose life is turned upside down when she is forced to move to California and become a farm worker. Esperanza means hope and hope is what Esperanza needs to find a way to rise above her difficult circumstances. This book has it all, and through it, we will discuss theme, character, and vocabulary through the context of historical fiction.
