During this Trimester, I've had the honour of working with some brilliant, creative and authentic artists. As a result, I have learned, laughed and achieved more than I ever could have on my own. I've realised that collaboration is a powerful tool and way of life that sparks my imagination and nourishes my soul.
A collaboration of song-writing, production and performance between Luke Bonner and Hannah Buck.
"We realised very early on in the beginning of the Bachelor degree that we had a lot in common, in terms of taste in Aussie Rap and EDM music, lifestyle, spirituality and a curiosity about people and the universe.
It was from this idea that Etherea was born".
Luke and Hannah have produced two incredible tracks already this trimester and have plans for many more. Their shared sense of musicality enables them to quickly brainstorm and create great ideas on the fly.
Born out of the fires of frustration and desire for understanding, 'Fire" energetically and sonically encapsulates the rawness of introspection that one faces when confronting emotional entanglement.
There is a desperate plea to be heard and understood, but also a stern warning to any wayward travellers of the heart or folly, who underestimate the steely resolve of unhealed wounds and betrayal.
There is a sadness yet focused passion in the words that are express eloquently through the tonal and harmonic subtleties.
There is an underlying irony, however, in the core question: "Are you fucking stuck or you just scared?". It is as much as unresolved question to the self, as it is to the onlooker.
"Sugar and Spice" is a hard-hitting, energetic yet authentic Aussie Rap track about the origins and driving forces behind Luke and Hannah's personal and artistic journey to where they are now.
The lyrical style is short, sharp and punchy to accentuate the passion behind what it takes to overcome the trial and tribulations of personal growth and artistic vision.
It's a small window into the hearts and minds of two deep and introspective artists who both have a confident, outgoing and at times, hard-hitting approach to life, while still coming from a place of sensitivity and wonder.
This trimester has by-far been the most-rewarding, fun and enthralling period of study for me yet. To think that I almost wasn't going to do the Bachelor degree is crazy to me now. I've been lucky enough to have an incredible teacher in Dirk Terrill, who has not only inspired us to learn more deeply about ourselves, but also to raise our standards when it comes to all areas of composition, production and mindset.
I know that I have moved ahead in leaps and bounds and learned so much in such a short 13 weeks that I don't even fully comprehend it all and won't do until after the break. I'm excited by this because I know that as I create more and more music, all of this knowledge, skill and experience will disseminate itself into every facet of my musical career as an artist.
I know now that I love working with other artists and, in particular, helping to culminate our vision into a coherent and clear artistic manifestation. The communication, psychology and co-creating definitely appeals to me, and I love helping other artists bring out their best self. I am definitely happiest when working with others.
