I'm super into dub music, those who know me I'm sure can vouge for that. up until this project my music has always had a dub kind of vibe but for some reason didn't seem to sound like real dub music. my main focus for this project was to try and achieve a true dub rhythm.
My references for this project are two French dub producers that write a more modern style of electronic dub and with my use of synthesisers and electronic style of production my music has this electronic dub feel to it that I really love.
Unfortunately I didn't manage to get both masters back in time for this exhibition page, This afternoon I will be uploading both masters to Bandcamp follow my Instagram page to catch them as soo as they are released online this afternoon probably around 2pm.

For this project I began focusing on the rhythm section, the drums and Bass. I started this in my home studio, I find getting ideas down a lot easier in my own studio. I chose to work with a pack of drums samples I bought from drum drops recorded by prince fatty and played by Horseman. Horseman and prince fatty are both big inspirations for me and my music as well as fairly well known in the dub community. using their recordings on my project was really fun and really creative. I like to use layering when working with my bass in particular I love the digital sound of operator especially for my sub bass!!
Keep it simple sine wave!
This trimester for our genre project we got to collaborate with a design student to work on some logo designs and cover art, I was super stoked with how the design work came out and how easily it was to share ideas and come up with a design when working with mark. I felt like Mark a.k.a Penknife studio did a wicked job and was super chill to work with. I had heard about his work before actually meeting him in person through other design students in his class, when having a think about what I would like I was told by a few people that he would really suit my inspiration, which he totally did. communication was super easy, the very evening we first met he had already got back to me with his ideas that I thought were dope.
Adding guitar to my projects has been something I have wanted to do for a while. it was really cool to be able to work with Kiano on this project. The guitar recording session was super casual and spontaneous I have had a guitar in my room now for moths, my older brother gave it to me!!! only thig is now is, I'm not guitarist.
Anyway I know I was keeping it around for something and fortunately it just so happed that while I was listening to my work I progress Kiano walked into my room ad picked up the guitar so strait away I plugged it in ad hit record!
I really feel like these tracks are written to be performed and dubbed out live, I am really excited to work on that next trimester. I had a lot of fun working on this project and have definitely learnt a lot for future projects. I would have liked more time to work on top line elements to my music, I feel like these tracks have a good rhythm to them but need some more top line detail to hook people in more.
