Online lectures are classes on a specific topic from your course of study. In addition, we offer so-called OCEs (= On Campus Event). You are expected to actively participate in lectures. This means that you can ask questions, participate in discussions or work on topics in study groups. The lectures are to be understood as the basis of your study activities. They can be supplemented by workshops. In any case, you will have to inform yourself about the subject matter beyond the lectures, for example by reading books or websites, doing practical exercises and participating in (group) projects.
You can find an overview of your class times in the "Student Portal" under study.
In addition to lectures and OCEs, workshops are also offered. In workshops there is more interaction between the lecturer and the students. Discussions can be held or concrete problems of ongoing projects can be discussed. In some cases, classes are divided into several groups in order to better respond to the students.
The emphasis in workshops is on active participation in discussions, and mutual feedback. It is therefore equally important not to miss these dates. Workshops can also often clarify things that have not been fully understood through lectures alone. Furthermore, they strengthen the class association and the own commitment in the class.
Booking of rooms, workstations and equipment
You can book rooms, workstations and equipment via the Student Portal.
Log in with your username and password at login.sae.edu and select the menu item "Student Portal". There you can select different rooms under the tab "Bookings" and book them together with the corresponding equipment.
Depending on how far you are in your studies you can book more or less equipment or rooms.
If you have problems with bookings please contact the supervisors.
Cameras and equipment of the film department are booked through a separate system. You will get an introduction from your HI or the supervisors.
Teamwork is an important skill that is expected in your future jobs. Despite this, even very good students are always afraid of exams that have to be taken in teams. The problems here range from the difficult availability of teammates to the varying levels of commitment of individual team members.
Despite all this, group work is a very instructive and often excellent form of examination, which teaches essential soft skills that are expected of graduates.
For this reason, there are a few exams to be taken in groups as part of your studies. Here are some tips:
Choose your group members carefully and tolerate different approaches from other team members.
Working only with people who always agree with you will not broaden your horizon. It is through friction that new ideas and views emerge.
Assign specific tasks (or roles) to team members. This is the only way to properly experience responsibility and collaboration.
Consider a standardized approach to meetings. Take notes and assign specific and scheduled tasks.
SAE typically requires at least 80% attendance. If this is not met, the Department Head/Academic Coordinator is free to not accept exams. In this case, the lectures must be repeated at the next available date before the exam can be taken.
Furthermore, a remedial course may be discontinued if attendance is insufficient. Exceptions will only be made in the case of exceptional circumstances and/or if appropriate medical certificates are available. Under certain circumstances, absence from certain lectures may result in a booking ban for certain equipment.
Materials provided are intended to supplement instruction and are not a substitute for a class.
You must ensure that you are able to take all exams (including lectures and discussions). Especially for the latter, there may be time shifts in the schedule, so it is important that you arrive on time and allow enough time.
If you miss your exam date without excuse, you will receive a grade of '20'. Any improvement must be made on the next possible date. Fees may apply (e.g.: DPL4000).
If you have been granted a visa for your studies, SAE usually requires proof of regular class attendance. If your attendance rate is below a required minimum, you risk losing your visa and being forced to leave the country.
You must be on time to class. Punctuality is a trait that is expected of undergraduate / graduate students. Arriving late not only means that you will miss class content and possibly important announcements, you will also be disruptive to your fellow students. Arriving late to class will be noted accordingly on your attendance record.
It is your responsibility to:
To give notice within 7 calendar days if you are unable to attend class without an excuse.
Provide evidence of an excused absence (e.g., medical certificate).
Notify Campus Coordination and Department Head of course suspension and dismissal.
You should let them know if you must miss a class as a courtesy.
