Common questions from "Meet the Teacher":
I don't like to talk in front of the class. Do I have to?
We do speak in Spanish, but it is all together or in a low-stress way. I may embarrass myself by being goofy while singing or acting out stories, but I will do my best to make sure you feel comfortable in the class.
Why do I have to take Spanish?
Although it is a Texas graduation requirement to have two years of a foreign language, I'd rather you think of learning Spanish more as a tool that you can use in your future career and a way to better connect with classmates and community.
What do we do in class?
Language teaching has steered away from traditional vocabulary lists and verb T-charts to memorize.
We now strive to surround you with the language from bell to bell with bell-ringers, stories, songs, games, video shorts, and cultural parties.
How do you grade?
We will have occasional quizzes and tests, but daily active listening and participation are the key to learning a new language and so are stressed more in the grade book.

¿Quién soy yo? ~ Who am I?
¡Hola! I am Romy Wilson, and I now teach Spanish 1, 3, 4, and 5 at Sabine High School. I have been teaching Spanish for 32 years, and this is my 19th year here at Sabine High School.
I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in English and Business. I then attended UT Tyler for my certification in English, ESL, and Spanish.
I had not considered being a teacher until after I had already graduated from UT. I am so thankful that, through a tangled chain of coincidences, I ended up in front of a classroom full of teenagers! Even though I never would have planned it myself, "Coincidence is the word we use when we can't see the levers and pulleys." Emma Bull
I love teaching language and am so happy to spend my day surrounded by creative, funny, sarcastic, wild teenagers!
