How wonderful it was to be able to gather again for Mother’s Day.
Gathering in our church for our Liturgy to celebrate Motherhood was a special moment. There was particular joy in the singing, particular expression in the reading and a particular sense of grateful thanks for the gift and blessing of Mothers. Jason’s leadership shone through again and watching our Foundation and Year One students singing to their mums melted our hearts.
Our Mother’s Day breakfast was blessed with a sunny morning and families happily lined up for their toasties and muffins or read books and chatted together at their tables. The generosity of workers in the kitchen made the morning flow well and the buzz and chatter in the kitchen had almost as much energy as the other side of the bench.
Our Mother's Day Stall also worked well considering it was the first time we had run this as a ‘cashless’ event. The range of gifts on offer was greatly appreciated - I thank Lauren Morris for all her hard work in organising both the breakfast and the Stall. It took her hours of planning and organising in her own time. And I thank all those who came along to offer a hand on the day. You are what makes this community strong.
We might need to tweak a few things for next year and would love the support of anyone who is keen to put in a few hours to organise this special event.
Fundraising and event management is an agenda item on our School Advisory Council Meeting on Wednesday evening. We really need a team of keen community members to drive this important aspect of school life. If you have any ideas please let us know.
Confirmation
Last week a number of children from our parish, including many from St Alipius, celebrated the first of 10 celebrations of the Rite of Confirmation in our parish church.
What a beautiful celebration of initiation and commitment. I was so proud of our students who stood so resolutely and confirmed their faith in God and the Church.
I thank Jason Spark for his wisdom and faith sharing, Adam Cameron for his generous musical leadership, Kate, Joshua and Belinda for their classroom teaching that flowed over into the ceremonies and Father Jorge for leading a meaningful ceremony. His homily was inspired.
Most of all I thank these children, and the children who will celebrate in coming weeks, who truly give us ‘Faith in our Future’.
Staff News - Kate Snow
As you may know, Kate Snow, one of our Foundation teachers, was admitted to the Royal Women’s Hospital earlier this term and has been on complete bed rest as she and her husband Leo await the birth of their baby. Kate’s baby is now 28 weeks gestation. As she described it ‘Very happy to have reached the ‘magic’ 28 weeks. Risks plummet for babies born after this time and they usually have much better outcomes, so that’s wonderful’.
Kate’s priorities must be to follow doctor’s orders and care for herself and her baby. I know that you will keep them all in your prayers.
Reports and Learning Conferences
Mid year reports will be available via PAM in Week 10 of this term. These reports will provide a formal assessment of your child’s learning growth and support the evidence that you have been receiving via See-Saw throughout the year.
We will be holding Learning Conferences in Week 1 Term 3 (July 13th and 14th) when parents, students and teachers can discuss these reports and set future learning goals together.
Thanks for being in partnership with us in this important aspect of your child’s learning growth.

Ethics & Indigenous Perspectives
Our school community is committed to learning about reconciliation in Australia. Having an understanding of the concept, history and progress of reconciliation is an important part of continuing the reconciliation journey.
We are committed to raising awareness of current affairs and issues in the public domain that are of particular significance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the process of reconciliation.
In partnership with Jane Marini (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Learning Support Officer), Ash, Koa and Kyeema combined their recent learning about ethical perspectives with their Indigenous identity and produced three powerful and thought provoking speeches about January 26th | Invasion Day | Australia Day.
These perspectives were shared with their Learning Community last Wednesday.

Belinda's 3/4 Learning Community led
Whole School Prayer last Friday.
Foundation Learning Community
We are focussing on the concept of addition. We are learning to add numbers.
Foundation Learning Community
During Investigation time our reporters collected data. They used tally marks to record how many students were at each Investigation Centre. They discovered the Vet Centre was the most popular. They reported their findings to the rest of the learning community.
Year 5 & Year 6 Students
Well done to these students who spoke so beautifully at the liturgy today. All showed confidence when reading aloud with perfect enunciation and can be proud of their efforts.
Year 5 Learning Community (Science)
We are learning about cause and effect when conducting scientific experiments.
Foundation Learning Community
During Investigations Sam, Flynn and James worked together to make a crocodile using the lego blocks. The boys worked collaboratively to complete this and communicated their thoughts and and ideas respectfully.
Year 6 LC - We are so proud of these students who represented our school last week at the soccer comp. They won two games, lost two games and had a draw. Thanks to Mark Powell for coaching the team.

Learning Intention - We are learning to have conversations in Japanese where we are asking and answering questions about our interests. We are learning to take the conversation further while staying on a particular topic.
I can:
write a script and read it for a Japanese conversation
ask and answer questions with support
use customs such as bowing when greeting someone.
Learning Intention - We are learning to read and write numbers in kanji and then use these numbers to tell the time on an analogue clock.
I can:
match the kanji character with the romaji (alphabetical spelling) for numbers
order the kanji numbers from 1-10
explain that kanji is a very old form of writing based on pictures and ideas
label a clock face with kanji numbers.
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 21st successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
By facilitating NSS we aim to:
promote the value of reading and literacy,
promote the value and fun of books,
promote an Australian writer and publisher,
promote storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country,
and provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.

Dear families,
Re: Student free day - Friday 11th June
Please be aware that our school will have a student free day on Friday 11th June for a staff Professional Development day.
There will be no school for children on this day. Please also be aware that this Friday closure day precedes a long weekend for the Queen’s birthday public holiday (on Monday 14th). This closure has been approved by our governing body, DOBCEL.
On this day, staff will engage in a day of learning, facilitated by the McKillop Institute. This professional development focuses on implementing the ReLATE (Reframing Learning & Teaching environments) model, and will assist our teachers to build positive/strong classroom environments that enable optimal learning conditions.
