Jesus, guard us through this day
In all we do and all we say.
We pray for our school to be a place of
great discovery, adventure and creativity.

Dear Families,
Well that was an interesting week. We never quite know what life will throw at us do we? Of course, not everything that these hiccups in life present is negative. Our children may, or may not, have been engaged in focussed reading, writing and maths sessions, but they were all presented with opportunities to learn in different ways. They were also learning those important life lessons of being adaptable, resilient and self-directing.
We’d love to hear how your child/ren found positive ways to engage over the past few days when their routine, and yours, was disrupted. If you haven't done so already, we invite families to share any videos, photos or stories you have with your children’s teachers.
Thanks again for your readiness to work together as we adjust to the ever changing requirements of life during a pandemic.
The ‘Greening’ of St Alipius.
In 2008 we had artificial turf installed in our play area. Previously this had been either a mud-puddle or a dust bowl, depending on the weather, and consequently play was quite often restricted in this space.
Our ‘turf’ has presented us with an open usable play space and has solved lots of our earlier issues with dirt and dust, gravel rash and mud splashes. It has, however, left us pining for some ‘real’ grass. More grass is one of the things that students and families consistently say would improve life at St Alipius.
I am delighted to say that Ronnie McKeegan, our new grounds-person, has begun the greening of patches throughout our playground. The first went in last week and another will be installed over the long weekend. It will be great to finally have some grass to sit on.
Dear families,
Firstly, I would like to begin with a thank you for the warm welcome I have received since joining the St Alipius school community. I feel very blessed to be here.
As part of the newsletter, I will be sharing with you Learning and Teaching news - particularly about Visible Learning, which you can read about below:
Professional Development Day
Recently (29th January), the staff of St Alipius participated in a “Visible Learning” Professional Development day, facilitated by Corwin Australia. This begins a really important professional learning project for our school and a three year partnership with Corwin.
In a nutshell, Visible Learning focuses on empowering students as learners and also helps educators make the greatest impact on teaching and learning. This is a researched based approach that draws upon the work of Professor John Hattie - one of the most influential and effective educators of current times.
This will be a really rewarding journey for our school community, and will build upon the fabulous work our staff are already doing in their classrooms. We are excited about the opportunities this partnership will provide for our staff, and most importantly, the benefits this will have on our student’s academic achievement.
As we progress along, we would love to share regular updates with you via the newsletter. This will help to keep you informed about what’s happening - both in and out of the classroom.

Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival celebrated in many countries across the globe. It falls on the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent – a period of around six weeks leading up to Easter. During Lent, Christians give up luxuries to remember when Jesus went into the desert for 40 days to fast and pray.
Pancakes are associated with Shrove Tuesday, the day preceding Lent, because they are a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.

A topped up sandpit!
Last year during Science & Environmental Education specialist classes, students from across all year levels contributed to the planning, preparation and planting of tomatoes in the veggie patches near to the sandpit. After a few months we now have a bumper crop that is almost ready to harvest - we may have sampled one or two already! We will freeze what we pick until there are enough ripe cherry tomatoes to cook up a tasty pasta sauce!

A great way to stay fit and healthy is to exercise with others.
