Earth Day Assembly, April 13, 2026
April,2026
Thank you families for your continued support of our classroom and for reading the many emails that go home regarding special days, field trips and any other requests that are made of you! I am so impressed with the work the children put into our quick presentation for Earth Day... with only 2 days notice! They helped create and execute an informative and fun 'performance' for the whole school on Monday, April 13th. These last few months of school will pass quickly and I will be sad to see this joyful group move on, but move on they will and they are already feeling so ready for Grade 3! They should feel so very proud of the growth they have demonstrated thus far!

Time is flying! We are well into the halfway mark of the year! Wishing everyone a happy Family Day weekend coming up and thank you for the ongoing support you provide for our classroom family!
We have many walking field trips this Term before Spring Break arrives. Report cards will be posted to Brightspace before the break so please get in touch if you are still having any issues with accessing this online platform. Cheryl Rothnie in our office is more than happy to help families navigate any issues they may be having - she is a pro!

Additional information regarding Brightspace for your child's report card.
Brightspace is the parent portal for accessing and downloading your child's report card. A note was sent out from our office to detail the process and I will attach that information here as well. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Rothnie in the office if are having any issues. I have been told that it works much more smoothly through a computer than a phone.
Brightspace- Learning updates now digital.
Dear Sidney Parents/Guardians,

The children should be very proud of their singing. There were only 15 classmates present today and all used their voices to join together for our Remembrance Day assembly performance. Having Mr. Stepney accompany us on the piano was a new addition and I think they adjusted their timings to fit his playing very well. I am grateful for Ms W for filming us but there is way too much of me in there so please feel free to zoom in on your amazing children, thus cutting me out of the frame!

We were so fortunate for the beautiful weather for our trip to Goldstream. Even though we did not see any salmon spawning...yet...we enjoyed the Salmon Storybook program, hiking to the waterfall and spending time outdoors with our friends. The guide was impressed with this amazing group of learners and their knowledge of the Salmon Life Cycle. The children should be so proud of their great listening and stamina as they certainly got their steps in! A big thank you to Isla's Dad Steve and Alissa's Grandma Mrs. Erdem for joining us.
Please check out our photos from the day.

Hello Empathetic Elephant families,
The children have begun to settle so well into our classroom routines! What an amazing group of learners they are - curious, engaged and I am appreciating all of the acts of kindness I am seeing from so many on a regular basis.
This Friday - September 12th - will be our first Friday Family Reading time! Every Friday is an opportunity for you or a family member/special friend to join our class to read with their child in our room. This is different from the whole school Read-In days where you may visit another classroom or read anywhere around the school. If a child does not have anyone attending that day, they are welcome to join a classmate if they choose to, so that no one is on their own. We will welcome guests in after our room is set up so the children will come into the school as they would normally do so to attend to their classroom jobs and, when the room is ready, the Special Helper of the day comes out to welcome guests in. Our reading time usually goes to approximately 9:05 and you are more than welcome to join for part of that time if you are unable to stay for the entire time. If Friday mornings are not a possibility for you, but you would still like to come in at some time to read with your child, please let me know and we can plan an alternate time. As our year progresses, we will also have "Math Mornings" where your child will share a math game with you but this Friday will focus on sharing books.
Hope you can make it!

Hello Families,
What a wonderful first few days with your children! I will be sending updates through our site on a regular basis and will usually accompany notes with an email reminder to check our site. Thank you to those families that have filled out the "Getting To Know You" sheet which is always so very helpful for me as I begin working with your child. I look forward to receiving more next week. Please feel free to print off the form under the "Newsletters" tab and you can scan/email it back to me if you prefer.
Please send a bag of spare clothes and indoor shoes next week if you have not already done so.
Next week I will be sending a "Me Bag" home for your child to bring some items that will represent something about themselves that they can share with our class - more details to follow!
Wishing all of you a peaceful weekend after a busy week getting back into routines!
