Trellis Yarn Basket Pouch

This cute little pouch is the perfect size for a ball of South Maid crochet cotton... and just a wonderful little size and shape all around! I love this little pouch and I can guarantee you that I will be using it a lot! This can be made with any yarn, but I used trellis yarn with worsted weight, held together to create a strong and unique texture. It's almost rag-rug like. I call it a basket pouch because it has the shape and characteristics of a basket, but is quite small, hence the pouch part. I want to make one with heavier yarn and see how it works! I hope you enjoy this free pattern!

Notes:

To make this bigger you can add a 5th round in hdc that increases in every 3rd st.

Materials:

  • 50-70 m of worsted weight yarn and trellis yarn, or just some aran weight -- you could make this in any weight, it would just change the size

  • tapestry needle

  • scissors

  • 4 mm crochet hook (or size that gives you the gauge you want)

Gauge:

Gauge isn't very important but here is mine:

7 sts and 4 1/4 rows in 5 cm, using 4 mm hook in double crochet in the round.

Abbreviations:

ch - chain

hdc - half double crochet

st(s) - stitch(es)

sl st - slip stitch

sk - skip

dc - double crochet

sc - single crochet

Pattern:

Round 1: 10 hdc in starting method of your choice. (9 hdc + beginning ch)

Round 2: 2 hdc in each st (19 hdc + beginning ch)

Rounds 3-4: hdc in every second st around (R3 - 29 hdc + beginning ch, R4 - 44 hdc + beginning ch)

Rounds 5-13: dc around (you can do more rounds if you wish) (44 dc + beginning ch)

Round 14: Dc 6, ch 15, sk 10 sts, dc 12, ch 15, sk 10 sts, dc 6. (24 dc + two ch 15 spaces + beginning ch)

Round 15: Sc in each st and ch around (54 sc + beginning ch)

Round 16: Sc in each st around (54 sc + beginning ch)

Finish off and weave in all ends! You are done!

Enjoy!
