Sleeping Bag Carrier
If your sleeping bag does not have a carrier of its own, here is a great pattern for you to create your own. It is very freeform, quick, and easy.
trc=triple crochet
ch=chain
st(s)=stitch(es)
ss=slip stitch
hdc=half double crochet
dc=double crochet
sc=single crochet
sp=space
I used triple crochet and created a circle the diameter of my rolled sleeping bag. I am not really good at circles, and for this I just kind of played it by ear. Don't worry if it is a little wrinkled. As you can see, mine is and it worked fine.
Now we will begin making the mesh pattern.
Row 1:
Ch 4. Trc in first stitch. Trc 2. *Ch 1. Skip 1 st. 4 trc in next 4 sts. Repeat from * to end of round. It's ok if it doesn't work out perfectly. Just join.
Row 2:
Ch 8. Trc into 1st ch 1 sp *Ch 4, trc into next ch 1 sp. Repeat from * to end of round.
If you have 4 sts left, ch 4 and sl st into 4th turning ch.
If you have 3 sts left, ch 4 and sl st into 4th turning ch.
If you have 2 sts left, ch 4 and sl st into 4th turning ch.
If you have 1 st left, undo 1 trc and 1 ch 4. Then ch 4 and sl st into 4th turning ch.
Repeat round until bag is slightly longer than height of rolled sleeping bag. Crochet 2 or 3 rows (depending on what fits) in triple crochet.
Row 3:
Ch 3. Dc in next st. Ch 1. *Skip 1 st. 2 dc. Ch 1. Repeat from * to end of round. Ss in turning chain. Do one round of sc. Fasten off.
Create a chain of the appropriate length and weave it through the row of double crochet. Tighten to close and tie in a bow to hold. You can create a strap to sew on, but I chose not to.
Handle:
sc (hdc/dc/trc)
Row 1: Ch 12 (12/13/14). Sc (hdc/dc/trc) in 3rd (3rd/4th/5th) ch from hook. Sc (hdc/dc/trc) to end of row.
Row 2 :Ch 2 (2/3/4). Sc (hdc/dc/trc) to end of row.
Repeat row 2 until desired length is reached. Sew onto bag.
The sturdy bottom makes this nice and handy to set down, while the netting makes it fast and easy to crochet. It is flexible and can be adapted for any type of sleeping bag or even to just store stuffed animals!
Enjoy!
