The GOAT….The Greatest of All Time. Quite the title to hold - reserved only for those who truly earn it. Legends like Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Serena Williams and Tom Brady have all claimed that status. But does Patrick Mahomes belong in this group?
When people talk about the GOAT of the NFL, Tom Brady is often the fan favorite. As it stands, Tom Brady has had the greatest football career of all time in terms of statistics; however, Patrick Mahomes, given his age, stands out as the most outstanding quarterback of his generation. Mahomes' first year as a starter was in 2018 and it is widely regarded as one of the best debuts in NFL history. He was named MVP after becoming the second player in NFL history to throw 50 touchdown passes in a single season. He also led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship, their first appearance in 25 years. He earned Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors. His introduction to the NFL was nothing short of spectacular and he didn’t stop there.
He became the fastest quarterback to reach 10,000 career passing yards. Mahomes has led the Kansas City Chiefs to multiple Super Bowl appearances, earning three rings—all before turning 30. Mahomes’ performances often include impossible throws in clutch moments and split second judgment calls under pressure.
However, some may argue that it is too early to call Mahomes the GOAT. He is still young and his career has just started. The GOAT isn’t always about being the best right now but about making a mark both within a sport and its fan base. Patrick Mahomes has certainly done that within a short 6 years in the NFL. It will be fun to watch as he becomes more of a legend with each passing season. (Sportsnet, Britannica, Bleacher Report)
