August 2025 was the mark of the global phenomenon Vogue Fashion Magazine controversy in the world of fashion. The August 2025 issue incorporated a photo of an AI model posing for the clothing brand Guess. Vogue magazine has always been a magazine full of luxury and high fashion. The company is also starting to become more and more diverse, always trying hard to make the next issue better than the last. The photo contained a blond model with airbrushed skin, clearly not hiding that it was AI. Captained onto the photo said “Produced by Searphinne Vallora on AI.” Searphinne Vallora is an AI company that produces AI models also seen in H&M ads. This AI campaign has hurt everyone in the industry, people who work hard behind the scenes, models, and readers. People behind the scenes and models that want to make these photographs as good as possible feel betrayed. They feel like they have lost their jobs to some people in a room playing with AI for a couple of weeks. Guess Magazine was prompted to design two photos of an AI model to show off their clothing. Felice Howard, a plus size model, tells BBC that "Either Guess is doing this to create a talking point and get free publicity or they want to cut costs and don't think about the implications of that." (BBC) The use of the AI models sends unachievable beauty standards to women of all ages.
Anne Hathaway was on the cover of this issue discussing her most challenging role. She is currently in the process of promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2. Hathaway, and everyone else behind the scenes, wanted to make this authentic while it is clear that Guess did not.
