The chart lists the minimum requirements necessary for a student to attain an Alberta High School Diploma. The requirements for entry into post-secondary institutions and workplaces may require additional and/or specific courses. The diploma route is the default for all high school students.
There are some students who are a few years behind grade level who will opt for the Knowledge and Employability (K&E) Certificate of High School Achievement (not the same as a diploma). If your intent is to work toward this certificate, you must first consult with your counsellor or school principal to express your desire to move from the diploma route to the Certificate of High School Achievement route.
The Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) has replaced the General Education Development (GED) in Alberta. This credential is not equivalent to a high school diploma, but it is a credential that may be useful for employment or some post-secondary programs. This credential is not offered through RVS, but you can obtain more information from the website linked or by contacting the following:

While we want to do whatever we can to support and encourage students to earn their high school diplomas, we recognize that there may be some students who, for various reasons, opt to withdraw from high school prior to high school completion. If you are in this situation, please reach out to your school counsellor before withdrawing for information on post-secondary opportunites, employment and apprenticeships to plan for the best path forward together with your family.
