The Annual Representative Assembly, ARA, is the legislative body of the Alberta Teachers’ Association. It is made up of committees from each local that collectively review and determine the policy of the Association to help set priorities and direction in addition to reviewing and approving the operating budget.
Our Local’s committee can be as large as 19 members. It is made up of 14 RVATA35 teachers (including our president) that attend ARA, up to 4 alternates plus our District Representative. We meet monthly as a committee of local members and participate in one larger meeting annually that includes all of the ARA committees from across the province on May long weekend at the Annual Representatives Assembly. The location of ARA alternates between Calgary and Edmonton.
This committee is always interested in member ideas and opinions. If you have ideas on what the Association should be more actively lobbying for or have ideas about what could make the Association’s Bylaws stronger, contact this committee with your thoughts and we will work diligently to help make them as clear as possible for members to vote on at ARA.
