Middle Ed 6-8: History & Social Sciences
Beginning September 1, 2026, through November 30, 2026, VDOE will accept either 5089 or 5589 for Middle Ed 6-8: Social Studies. Following the Praxis/ETS retirement of test #5089 on November 30, 2026, Praxis test #5589 will be the only accepted test for Middle Ed 6-8: Social Studies.
Elementary Education PK-6 & Early/Primary Education PK-3

Beginning September 1, 2026, VDOE will accept either the 5001 or the 8000-series assessments for the Elementary Education PK-6 and the Early/Primary Education PK-3 endorsements. Following the retirement of test #5001 (and all subtests) in August 2028, the Praxis 8000-series will be the only accepted test for Elementary Education PK-6 and Early/Primary Education PK-3.
You may choose to take either set of tests, but you cannot mix and match - you must pass either all subtests in the 5001 or all of the 8000-series tests.
The Praxis Teaching Reading test #5205 is also still required.
