Program Beliefs

(complete program handbook found HERE)

Rush City Early Childhood believes that all students can learn and be successful! We believe that students learn best:

-through active, hands-on involvement with their environment

-when parents take an active role in their child’s learning

We believe that each student is a unique individual with a variety of interests and abilities. Our program uses the Big Day for PreK curriculum as a guide to plan daily activities for preschool students as well as the Second Step social emotional learning program. Daily activities will include:

- Social/Emotional Skill Development (Using the Second Step curriculum)

- Early Literacy & Math Instruction

- Whole Group Learning Activities

- Small Group Focused Learning Activities

- Large & Small Motor Development Activities

- Sensory Play/Music/Movement Activities

- Opportunities for Creative Art

- Guided Free Play Learning Activities

- Outdoor Play

Assessment

We believe children should have multiple opportunities to show what they are learning. Rush City Early Childhood uses a combination of formal assessments as well as teacher observation to inform parents of their child's progress. Most importantly, preschool children should directly benefit from the results of an assessment, meaning: teachers should adjust their classroom activities to fit the needs that students may or may not be showing on an assessment. Assessments used include:

  • TS Gold - authentic, ongoing, observational assessment

  • Letter Naming Fluency (a measure to help determine how quickly children recall names of letters)

  • Observations - teacher created checklists that align to the ECIPs (Minnesota's Early Childhood Indicators of Progress)
