About this Class

Students will be held accountable to U.S. History Standards directed by the State of California. The standards for 8th grade include the period of history between the formation of our Constitutional Democracy through the Second Industrial Revolution. The course is designed to address grade level course objectives but is specifically tailored to provide opportunities to students with IEPs. Curricular accommodations include addressing IEP goals in reading, vocabulary, reading comprehension development, and basic language writing skills.

Binder

(Not used during Distance Learning)

Students will use a binder for this class consisting of all class assignments and homework. The binder will serve as a reference for all learning done in class.

The purpose of the binder is to ensure that students keep their work neat and organized for the entire year.

Students are expected to bring and maintain their binders DAILY. Failure to do so will result in a reduction of their grade.

Homework

Late work is accepted, but discouraged due to a possible 30% reduction in points.

If students do not turn in classwork/homework, students will be assigned a mandatory academic detention with the teacher.

Homework should be neat, clearly written or typed, and not crumpled. If these standards are not met, students will be asked to redo the assignment.

Assessments

50% of the total grade will be determined by tests and quizzes.

The unit tests or quizzes occur approximately once every two to three weeks, depending on the number of chapters in the unit.
