Choir/Musical Theater

This will be a good year, especially if we, individually, set the intentions of what we would like to invite into our lives. However, this year has to be different than previous years. The scientific data related to transmission to Covid-19 informs us that we need to take precautions in the choir room. We will not be able to put together public performances this year. Singing in a group setting is prohibited. Therefore, the curriculum will be adjusted. I will be posting videos on vocal warm-ups and health. I will be teaching songs that passionate students can choose to learn and perform digitally. I will be offering extra time to develop vocal skills to students that want the extra support to grow in the performance arts. My personal intention is to be the teacher my students need and want me to be.

Musical Theater and 7th and 8th grade choirs will be participating in the same curriculum this year. We will start with a unit on Musical theater. We will learn about the history leading up to the development of the genre. Students will also learn about all of the jobs available in the industry. They will reflect on their interests and blossoming skills to see where they could see themselves participating in a production. Some students may be able to see how some of the skills needed for performance arts jobs can transfer to other lines of work.

6th grade choir and general music will be participating in the same curriculum this year. We will start the year on understanding mood and music. Students will be able to understand the mood that music conveys and be able to choose music that supports the mood they would like to experience. This will lead to students using music as a backdrop to story telling.

Students involved in last year's production of The Lion King

I would like to let you know that as soon as I get the go ahead; that all is safe, I will be setting a timeline of putting this production together. It may be this year, but it is unlikely. Please keep your scores (printed music) Please access the google classroom at any time. It will stay open for you. It will not matter what grade you are in at the time that this production gets going. If you were in the original cast, you have first dibs at your original roles. Please email me at anytime if you should have any questions or concerns. Amberleigh.cellak@rusd.org
