Welcome to my personal website. I am Associate Professor of International Trade and Sustainable Development (with ius promovendi) at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, the Netherlands. I lead one of the CEPR’s Structural Transformation and Economic Growth (STEG) themes and am a Fellow of the Groningen Growth and Development Centre, where I direct research on global economic transformation.

Much of my research informs policy, and I regularly advise governments, multilateral organizations, and the private sector. Clients and partners have included the United Nations, Asian Development Bank, OECD, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Overseas Development Institute, World Bank, International Labour Organization, Rabobank, and ING.
