He Kōrero mō Sarah: Sarah moved to Aotearoa in 1991 and has taught in both countries since 1985. She established the successful Neurodiversity Programme at Kāpiti College and is an accredited M.o.E. Neurodiversity Consultant.
Sarah has facilitated professional development across Aotearoa within the public sector, the private sector and for the Dept. of Corrections. Some of her resources are also available in Tongan.
Te Kaupapa: Topics and questions that will be covered in Sarah’s session include:
- What is dyslexia/tīpaopao kupu?
- How is tīpaopao kupu being identified and what support is there for kaiako, kaiāwhina and whānau in kura kaupapa Māori settings?
- What are some of the problems for Māori tamariki in Māori-medium schools?
- How does tīpaopao kupu impact those who are bilingual or speakers of different languages?
- What are important things for kaiako to consider if they suspect they have a dyslexic ākonga?
- Personal insights on working with kura Māori and Māori whānau.
